Ralph
In case anyone is interested Lidl will be selling LED bulbs at £3.99 each. I fitted a couple of these in my van and they only use 1.2 watts each. http://www.lidl.co.uk/uk/home.nsf/pages/c.o.20090825.p.LED_Bulbs.ar1
Bill Ord
Hi, A good price if you're using that fitting. However most of the lights that are fitted to current vans are G4 fitting and need only that type of replacement "bulb" to substitute for the halogen bulb that is fitted. Ralph
I had to "adapt" my fittings to get them in but it was worthwhile for the power saving. Main drawback is that they are quite directional so you need to be sitting underneath (I have them in the ceiling) to read.
Derek Uzzell
Ralph Do the Lidl bulbs produce a similar warm-white light to that of your original halogen bulbs, or has the light the peculiar blue tinge (often termed "cool white") that seems to be common for domestic LED bulbs sold in DIY stores? As I've emphasised repeatedly in the past, LED bulbs are not all created equal and cheapness should never be the sole consideration when choosing them. Light colour and light output, beam angle and bulb design are just as important. In many cases it should be possible to obtain LED replacement bulbs that don't require the original light units to be modified and that provide equal or better lighting performance. lennyhb
As Derek says LED's vary a lot, we struck lucky with the ones we brought, nice warm white and very bright better than 10 Watt halogens. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250362691693&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I'd have to describe them as the latter. I've only replaced 2 and left the rest. When power saving is important I use the LEDs. Not practical to replace most of mine as they are of a different pattern.
Guest peter
I've fitted the stick on LED's as found in B&Q £2 each.So we have best of both worlds.
Derek Uzzell
Ralph Are you sure that you can't replace your motorhome's remaining bulbs with LED ones? Most halogen/filament bulbs have a LED equivalent and, although many of these products won't be available from supermarkets of DIY outlets, they can be obtained from specialist suppliers like Ultraleds. See http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/caravanmotorhome-leds-c-100.html Bill Ord mentions the G4 halogen bulb that's commonly used in recent leisure vehicles. There are various different LED bulbs that can replace a G4 original, though suitability will depend on the light unit involved and (I suspect) when that light unit is a 'pretty' one with fully-exposed G4 bulbs, LED replacement bulbs may be less aesthetically pleasing when not illuminated. Oh no, I'm sure I can get them. I find that having 2 is adequate and keeping the others as supplied is OK. Van has 16 lights (plus awning) so I'm not likely to replace all of them, far too expensive!
