mike 202
How do you convert Decimal degrees to Degrees Minutes and seconds. I believe this can be done by resetting some satnav systems, but I would like to know how to do it so that I would not have to keep changing a Sat Nav. ACSI for example gives decimal degree format N50.27340 degrees E2.94854 degrees and All the Aires for a different site is in degree, min, sec format, N47* 18.166' E 005* 25.093' Waiting for an expert Mike
sshortcircuit
Not an expert but 60 is the key factor With your first example, which I find as a field near Boiry-Notre-Dame, I calculate as follows 50. 2734 = 50degree .2734 X 60 =16.304 minutes .304X60 = 18 sec 2.94854 2 degrees .94854 X 60 = 56.9542 minutes .9542 X 60 = 57 sec I find your second example is Pontailler Sur Soane which is easier to calculate as you have the degrees and minutes and only need to calculate the seconds 47 degrees 18 minutes .166 X 60 = 10 seconds 5 degrees 25 minutes .093 X 60 = 05 seconds My SatNav does not accept coordinates but I have autoroute on my laptop which does. Using the above I find the location which I can then pull the map on my SatNav and then set as destination. Hope this helps and I would be interested in an experts method other than using an internet program
Mike88
Most sat navs offer coordinates in various formats. What sat nav have you got?
rupert123
My garmin has a facility to change the format.
Guest Tracker
So does my TomTom have this facility - and maybe it would be easier and safer to alter the Sat Nav settings than to risk any errors arising from the entry of a manually calculated lat and long?
