Sandringham Estate

Hi Mad Cow,

We've stayed on the C&CC site (next door to CC) a few times and nearest PH we can think of is in Castle Rising. We have cycled this on ordinary mountain bikes many times and takes about half an hour. It's mainly down a closed road so fantastic for cycling.

We haven't eaten in the pub there but from memory it did serve food.

Have just Googled "Castle Rising pub" and come up with the following LINK as well as a few other references. Looks like you may be in luck.

Hi Keith,

Thanks for that. It looks really nice. Do you think it would be easy to find the way there from the site or should I invest in an ordnance survey map?

What is the difference between the two club sites at Sandringham. Is there any other advantage to staying at the C & CC?

I was just googling the pub and there was a foodie show on tv and one of the contestants said that if she won the money she would by a motorhome and tour Britain looking for good food - how spooky is that!

Hi again Mad Cow,

If you use Google maps and search for 'Sandringham, Norfolk' then you will see Castle Rising just to the South, the other side of the A149. The closed road runs from the side road North of the junction of the A149 and B1439 to Castle Rising and starts off as a cycle track alongside the A149. The only awkward bit is crossing the A149 but there is a central refuge at the side road.

If you look on Google maps and then print the map before you go it really is very simple to find.

I don't know about the difference in the 2 sites as we're only in the C&CC. Maybe someone else can help here.

Hi

We stayed on the CC Sandringham site earlier this year in June / July. We did not have bikes and there was nothing in the way of pub or restaurant anywhere close at all. I even thought about trying to catch one of the many hundreds of rabbits that abound on the site. There is a small store in the grounds but that was closed by the time we arrived. have to say also that this was the most unfriendly CC site we have stayed on since we had our motorhome and also our only experience of a "jobsworth" attitude. Hope you have a better experience but suggest you bring some provisions!

Hi Bob,

Yes not the best place for eating out. We ended up eating in every night which was not a problem as we went prepared. We didnt really have much to do with the wardens so had a quite a pleasant stay and the weather was great too. There were a few comments in the book about the attitude of the staff though.

Regards

Hello Mad Cow,

We prefer the C&CC site of the two, members of both but believe that the C&CC is really the "friendly" club.

There is the Ffolkes Arms at Hillington on the A149, about the same distance from the site as Castle Rising. (Phone 01485 600210.) Pubs also in Dersingham, can't remember the names. Also believe that temp membership of West Newton Social Club if staying on the C&CC site is available for a dram.

Try Multimap of Sandringham, OS version, select scale to cover area required and print off.

Also believe that the Queen Victoria at Snettisham, a little further on from Dersingham has won the C&CC CS with a Pub award a couple of years ago.....

Hope this helps.

Good tips there Mick. Will check out the Queen Victoria on our next trip as we will definitely go back to Sandringham and may well try the C&CC. We walked through it on our way to Sandringham through the woods. We didnt have a problem at the Caravan Club site but in the comments book at few people had them down as "jobsworths".
