Been away 10 days into 6 week trip. Just got an line to get my fix of the Forum.

Tried a few Aires for the first time and really enjoyed the cameraderie on them. Went to la Rochelle and then across to Oradour Sur Glane the French town where the whole town including a 12 day old baby were shot. A good place to visit but be aware that it will affect you. Now in a site in the Bay of Roses north Spain for 7 days then on to Barcelona and Vinaros for 3 weeks.

Hi Judge, I have just woken to clear blue skies, temperature has been around 24*C, we are staying on a camping cheque site MAS NOU at Empuriabrava in the bay of Roses. The site is very good, with the usual facilites, a Mercadona supermarket at 100m and a 40m swimming pool. It's about a mile from the Med and a huge marina. An Aero club operates nearby and on Sat/Sun there are groups of about 20 Sky divers at a time enjoying themselves most of the day, it is a spectacular site to see so many coloured wing type canopies silently surfing the sky.Lots to do so we will be here for a week.

Our first time her and we will certainly visit again.

It's nearly wine o'clock so out in the lounger with a good book, then of on the bikes.

Hi Mike nice to see you are having fun, we stayed in this area one summer about 4 years ago and had a nice time......What are your plans? are you heading further south?

I am thinking of visiting Valencia area in October.

A suggestion:

Try to get a site close enough to Barcelona so that you can bus in/train and metro in. There are several just south of the city along the coastline.

And try to stay there for 3 or 4 days at least.....Barcelona is just the most amazing city.

Enjoy!

Mind you, Valencia is a wonderful city, overlooked by visitors who always seem to go to Barcelona and Madrid.

Did all three on our recent tour, found Valencia rather disappointing although the inner old town was nice to wander through the narrow streets. Madrid was god but Barcelona was the best, so Cosmopolitan.

Hi to all,

On the exchange rate we used http://www.crowncurrencyexchange.com/index.asp?adloc=CompareTravelMoney and we got 1.17, their curent rate is 1.12 Euro/£.

Fuel in France 0.996E/Litre and similar in northern spain, both at supermarkets. As to cost, food seems similar but eating out is a No No much more expensive than before.

Still sunny and no rain yet. Off to the Tres Estrellas juast south of Barcelona, then on to Vinaros another 150 miles south of Barcelona.

We have used our bikes quite a bit and enjoyed the peace and quiet of cycle tracks, so a bit of keep fit and lots of enjoyment.

Our "Van" an A/S Windsor overcab coachbuilt is returning about 28 mpg, keeping to cruise of 55mph where possible as we are only using non motorway roads.

We have used a 50:50 split of Aires and campsites, but in respect to the communities who provide the Aires we have so far spent more in their shops than we have saved on campsite fees. So no freeloading, rather a case of enjoying a different community spirit.

My friend is managing to get ITV/BBC on a LIDL suitcase Sat Set as good as my 1M dish.

Breakfast next and then a relax in the Sun.

Thanks for you interest and comments

Mike

The exspurts :-S were predicting an exchange rate of 1.20 by the Autumn. That was back in June/July, instead it has slid back to parity.........*-)

Just returen to Uk from 37 nights in France, as far south/west as Biarritz, then back up west coast and across via Loire valley to Normandy. Very impressed overall with standard of sites. By use of some Camping Cheques (bought last year),some discounted offers plus a couple of nights on Aires (varying from 'free' to €7 our avr price per night for pitch was under €16.

Deisel was managed to keep under €1 per litre, and generallyfound by shopping aro9und was nearer 0.96/97.

We are noticing more and more hypermarche where we cannot get into for fuel with either height barriers, too narrow at the paydesk or simply ro sharp a turn to get out of them, and we are only 6.2m long! Also quite a few Hypermarches now have height barriers at entrance, and it is not always possible to find alternative parking - our view, if they dont want us, then that;s their problem, there are others not far away generally which are much more motorhome friendly.
