misty
Are these washer/dryers worth buying for the van.they are a big thing to carry around.it might go under the fixed bed or stand in the shower.we dont have a garage.someone on the forum said they went away for 5 month and it was the best thing they took with them.they were selling them at the Shepton Mallet show for £52.they used to be a lot more than that.so are they worth the space they take up. tonyishuk
We use one in the mobilehome and it works very well. One minor problem is that it drains from the base by gravity and needs to stand off the ground to drain fully. We stand the unit on a chair, If you use a table it would have to be fairly substantual as the wash action and spin action are quite strong. Takes a double duvet cover with no problem. vindiboy
We have a seperate spinner and a washing machine and my wife loves both of them, our van does have a garage so storage is not an issue, both of ours are low wattage so work off the inverter with no problem, saves a small fortune on washeteriea prices and is great whilst wild camping, a king size Duvet cover fits in both with no problem and both are gravity drained so no problem emptying off a small plastic table and water into a bucket. The Spinner is domestic size and attracts a lot of attention whilst in use and a lot of other campers have said what a great bit of kit and say they will get one. :-o :-o :-o

PJay
vindiboy - 2009-09-21 6:53 PM Malc, looks like you could have had a small buisness there, taking in washing!! Rapido-lass
Depending on what you want to wash, one tip is to get a large bucket with secure lid (- it use to be a nappy bin inthe old days!) and put your undies and tops/shorts in, seal and after a days travelling all you need to do is rinse and get the OH to wring them out! If you're in sunny climes they normally dry over night. However this might not suit everyones needs and obviously no good for large items.
tonyishuk
Following Rapido-lass's advice We used cool box wih a good lid, The advantage being, it tended to be more stable than a bucket AND if filled with warm water, it retained the heat for quite a while, helping with the washing. Tomo3090
It will save you a fortune on trips abroad. Average price for a wash on sites in early 2009 was 4 Euros. We washed and spun several loads then hung them out in the sun and did a weeks washing in a day! It will take a double duvet cover and 2 pillow cases easilyl then do the sheet and other cases next. Wash your whites first as the filter tends to fluff up and hold some coloured dyes. Two towels will be your max. unless they are small ones. Only fill the wash drum to about half for the wash and don't use too much powder, then you save on rinse water. After two rinses wash your next load in the rinse water, just add the powder. I could get a first wash, 2 rinses and a second wash out of a 25 litre container of cold water. Just get warm water from the dish washing sink on site. It takes too long from the van heater. Happy washing!
berti
hi misty we bought a pyramid twin tub for £60 from frank's caravans at the malvern show...we had seen one in action in portugal last winter and were very impressed we were continuing to italy from the show and were a bit concerned that we would be overweight ..it says 10kg on the box...but we just drank the equivalent beer and wine !! it has been a lifesaver really on this trip as it has been so hot and sticky.. i don't know how we would have managed as we have seen very few diy launderettes ...the service washes really start to add up if you use them regularly it worked using the genny (before it packed up) ok on electric provided at our stopping places if you only go away for short periods maybe it's not worthwhile but on long trips it's a good buy even if you stay on campsites it's nice to have it as we have seen people washing dog blankets etc in the sites machines !! cheers berti
