David Dwight
Has anyone got any thoughts on how secure the parking is at NEC. Wondering wether to go to the NEC in the M/home, using a CL or site further away and parking for the day. Thinking of changing but dont know if its worth the hassle of going to the show, or just going to the local dealers. David
davenewellhome
We've visited the NEC shows many times in both the motorhome and cars and never had any problems. Just follow the basic rules of security, don't leave anything valuable on display, set your alarm etc. D.

David We've been several times and have never had a problem (mind we do have dogs!). We camp overnight en-route, go for the day (usually Saturday), have tea then set off for home, stopping en-route for the night again and then return home. The car parks are usually fairly busy with people coming and going most of the day so there's usually someone pottering about, probably enough to put any 'tea-leaf' off, there are also security guards milling around too. As Dave says, just secure your 'home' as you would normally and preferably don't park in a daft place like right at the very back hidden in the bushes which some motorhome owners try to do! If you're likely to only want to purchase from a dealer near home, then there's probably not much point in going unless you want to see particular models that your local dealers haven't got in stock (but can get). As to whether or not it's worth going at all - if you're after a new one then possibly, if you are wanting a second hand one then there won't be that much on offer, don't assume because it's a show you'll get better discounts either, it doesn't make that much difference, if at all and the motorhome accessories on offer are fairly limited although sometimes you can get stuff a bit cheaper, assuming they've got it with them of course. If you do go, make sure you take a drink/sarnies etc in with you as the prices of grub can be 'extortionate' and the queues long.
David Dwight
Thanks Dave and Mel. Yes we are thinking of new again, but a bit wary of the Fiat problems, although no complaints with our present base vehicle. It appear to me that if you order at a show there seems to be a hell of a wait with orders. If and when we order we will not want problems of being put back months, as our year for 2010 is already planned. If we go we will possible stay somewhere in the West Midlands, our old stamping ground, the Dudley area. David
mel wood
If you are going to stay in the West Midlands you may wish to consider going by train to Birmingham International (the station for NEC) You are able to purchase combined bus and train 'daytripper' tickets.
