PJay
Hi All you long term travellers out there. I would be interested as to what insurance you get (personal travel) for long periods. Our annual insurance is due for renewal . our current ins co , offers 45days, with option to increase to 60 days any one journey. (for £20 each extra) We would like to be able to get longer cover say up to three months. Both over 70, but under 75 years. What do others do? I would like to shop around if possible, so any suggestions please? Pauline
Peter42
I have a policy with the Caravan Club which gives me 12 months cover for trips lasting up to 66 days. I think that the duration may be negotiable ( at a price, of course). Otherwise, have you tried an insurance broker? They should be able to recommend cover. Tomo3090
Comfort will insure you for 365 days in Europe, even if you haven't got actually got a house. They will accept a C/O address but will go into it in some detail, (we have so that bit didn't affect us). There are no milage limits either. Don't forget your home insurance though. Most will only allow 30 continuous days of absence. We went with the Camping & Caravan club and get 180 continuous days. If we want longer we only have to give them the name and details of a "responsible adult" who can move in for 24 hours then the 180 days starts again. BTW, Does anyone know any "responsible adults"? Health insurance will also have to be covered for long term travelling. Just as a sideline, when we got back from our 5 month trip this year I applied for some life insurance and because I had been travelling for that length of time they wanted me to have a HIV test! I explained I was 52 not 22 and had been in the company of my wife for the entire trip, so they let me off!
Mickydripin
Sorry tomo but they must have felt sorry for you being in the company of your wife for all that time thats why they let you off
Mickydripin
I have my insurance with Safeguard and they cover you for 365 days of the year for the continent it is good all round cover but watch for the interest that they charge if you pay monthly this year it would cost me a stonking £75 extra that would give you more incentive to pay yearley. PJay
+Thanks Tomo,Mickey, for your replies, but I do not need to insure the MH, but PERSONAL Travel Ins, IE accident, illness etc. this is also for travel not in the MH, as we do take other holidays. we have annual travel ins, have done for a number of years, and as we get older (over 70) it gets more difficult. I can renew with my current inusrers, but the premium, has gone up 15%, but it is worldwide.I thought I would shop around this year. The only problem , with the current policy is that it covers only for 42 days at a time, can be extended to 60 for an extra £20per head. I would like cover that is for say 90days.i have googled and have found some for that time. Wanted to know what others did, who long term. Maybe "others " don't bother about this type of insurance, and rely on the eu cover, which is why I asked the question. The house policy is not a problem, so much Pauline

Wirralian
Hi PJay Try this site: www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/cheap-travel-insurance. I was put on to this by an article in MMM in 2008 (I think July). John
Tomo3090
We did our insurance through the Camping Caravan Club and we were coered for 12 months. Mickey, don't feel sorry for me, there's not many places she can escape in a motorhome! ;-)
Wirralian
I should have explained why I quoted the specialist travel insurance site. I had previously obtained my travel insurance from the Camping and Caravanning Club but last year I suffered a TIA (minor stroke) and as a result they quoted well over £300! The previous year I paid £95. As I said in my earlier posting, I was guided my Mel Eastburn's article in MMM. It was in May 2008(not July as previously thought). Because of the pre existing medical condition and age (68) I had to enquire of many insurance companies. I got the best deal from one quoted on www. specialist travel insurance. I paid £210 for a multi trip (60 days max each trip). I haven't got details of the company readily to hand. Mel listed a selection of travel insurance providers for those with pre existing medical condition but only two offered more than 60 days cover, namely, Euro-assistance.co.uk (183) and Miaonline.co.uk (180). PJay
John, Thanks for the reply. You don't say wether your cover is Worldwide or just Europe. I am currently insured through RYA (Bishop Skinner) they offer a good deal Worldwide for us. Only 45days, but can be extended to 60 for extra £20, also we are both over 70, with one having Diabetes I will look agaiin on the web, but think will probably stick with current one, as they are very helpfull, and can be flexible pauline
