MelE, thanks very much for your response to my message, I haven't as yet ordered the m'home so I'll put that on hold for the moment - and yes I would very much appreciate your MMM Fact Sheet 'Buying Abroad'. How do I go about obtaing it?

As you really need to get this information ASAP I'll quote Mel E's 01/2006 reply. "You can get the MMM Fact Sheet on Buying Abroad by sending an SAE (C5 size) together with a cheque (at least £5) payable to my favourite charity (MacIntyre Care), an organisation that provides for children and adults with severe learning difficulties, to: M Eastburn Fact Sheet c/o MMM PO Box 88 TIVERTON EX16 7ZN The Fact Sheet covers everything you need to know about buying abroad on 8 A4 dual-column pages. Over 600 have had it so far. Mention that you want to buy in Germany and you'll also get the 'Buying in Germany' supplement." (If you SEARCH the forum on "fact sheet" (omitting the quotes) you'll find earlier comments that may prove useful.)

I know Ken may find out when he gets your fact sheet, Mel, but I suppose if he were to clock up 6,000 Km (is this the figure?) after regsitering in UK, but before exporting to Spain, he may be able to import the vehicle to Spain as used, VAT paid, and avoid the luxury tax? Brian

A contentious one, Brian. According to the VAT rules (which are the ones that apply to this) you must have done BOTH 6,000 Kms and 6 months from new for it to count as used. I believe the same rules apply in Spain. But I'm not sure what rules apply to used vehilces for the luxury tax there. Note that the DVLA state in their booklet that EITHER 6,000Km or 6 months is enough; they are wrong!, but who's checking anyway? However, Ken needs to get the info from the Spanish authorities on IVA.

Ken, The Fact Sheet and various supplements are in the post to you today. Many thanks for the generous cheque - MacIntyre is a great organisation that looks after hundereds of people with severe learning difficulties - from young to old - right across the country. So far the Fact Sheets have raised over £3,250.
