Big Momma Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 So I have gone and done it ! just ordered new M'Home for 1st May delivery the revamped Auto trail Cheyenne now added to Frontier range and renamed 'Comanche'. At 8.6 metres long and 5 tons this is a 'beast' :D But I digress, I am considering changing my current Sat Nav (Alpine Blackbird P200) and have read a lot about the Ventura Snooper. I like the fact that you can programme in height, width, weight etc What I would like to know is whether anyone out there has had any experience with this and what are the quirks ! Is it as good as the marketing material makes out ? The Alpine does allow for entering GPS co-ordinates in both Decimal and DD.MM.SS formats which is a huge plus. It worked exceptionally well this year on our tour of Spain but it did want to send us down some narrow roads on occasions, fortunately the back up system came in to play, OH with Michelin map (lol) As the new M'Home is tag axle and long I want a system that does what it says on the packet, if there is such a Sat Nav of course.
BarnacleBob Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I would be interested to see if anyone has any experience of these as I have been trying to get one since early August without success. At the NEC I could find no exhibitors who had stock and they were all waiting for delivery. The closest I could get was a conversation with one the Road Pro team who had used an S2000 and found it to be everything that it claimed and was well pleased. Unfortunately the Snooper rep took it back as it was needed for other trials.
Febbie Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 I got one earlyier this year,( replaced my Garmin which had the habit of taking me down narrow roads and gettin the blood presure up, ) I' ve found it to do all that is claimed. a big advantage is being able to access all Caravan sites, in particular Caravan Club Sites and CL's. It has a host of other features and you don't have to be a technograte to access. The only problem i've found is the voice promt is clear in alerting to a warnig although it does come up clear on the screen :-S :-S
davenewellhome Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Had a customer in today who had one fitted earlier this year and is not impressed. Apparently POI input via download is not possible and he reckons its nowhere near as good as his old Tom Tom. This is just hearsay as I have no personal knowledge of the equipment. D.
Guest Tracker Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Looking at this from a different perspective, a Sat Nav is a navigation AID and the clue is in the title! My Sat Navs have never 'sent' me down an unmade or overly narrow road because my own common sense as a driver over rides it to the extent that if I do feel like a bit of fun and try a road that looks potentially unsuitable I do so with extreme caution and remain very aware of potential turning places - if any - or just how far or how difficult it would be to reverse out. In many thousands of miles in many European countries using both Navman and Tom Tom sat navs over 6 years or so I have never been stuck or even come close to it - mind you we have had some very close shaves at times when I throw caution to the wind, say what the heck and just go for it! A lot depends on your own ability, driving experience, sense of adventure and common sense - with a good helping of luck at times - but for most of us the normal car type sat nav works very well!
