towing a 4x4

Are there any engineers/mechanics who can answer this ? I have a 2008 Suzuki Jimny (manual) that I want to tow but the handbook warns against towing on all 4 wheels. I know there are people who do tow Jimny's in this way but can anyone tell me why Suzuki say this. Are they being carefull in case the vehicle is not put into 2WD or are there also problems in towing it in 2WD? Suzuki refuse (or don't know!) to tell me exactly what the problem might be and direct me to their main dealers. I've tried several of these but it's obvious they don't know either.

Any really knowleadgable help would be appreciated before I finally start (or not) to tow it.

Each to his own of course, especially on this forum, but I can't help wondering why you want to do it this way round?

If you need a 4x4 when you arrive in your destination area, and want to leave your accommodation on site, I'd have thought that towing a caravan WITH the 4x4 would be more realistic than "putting the caravan before the horse?"

Please don't be offended by my question/comment - I'm not criticising your choice, just curious as to what led you in that direction.

The Jimny is not a big 4x4, it's more of a 'style statement', saying that could be handy for towing out :D
