I am presently thinking of buying a Hymer B754 with a Tag axel, I would appreciate any advice on the pros. and cons of a tag axel on a motorhome. Many thanks Steve

Traction on poor surfaces is a bit limited with only 2 out of 6 wheels driving. (You should have been at York last year to see how tag axles fared !!!) My preferance would be for twin wheels each side with rear wheel drive giving 4 out of 6 wheels driving and at the right end of the vehicle where the weight is.

I'm totally with Clive on this. Tag axles (usually Alko) are normally put on longer motorhomes to provide more rear load carrying capacity, which they do well. But the disadvantages are: - there is also more total weight for the front drive wheels to shift, so don't go anywhere where they might slip, 'cos they will! - the turning circle is usually horrid - think 7-point turns as the normal minimum - they are inevitably rather more complicated to level up with blocks on slightly sloping ground.

Hello Steve I have an Autotrail Cheyenne 840 which is a tag axle it's 8.5 metres long. We have not had a problem with the tag axle or the length of the van. One of the previous posters said something about you should have seen tag axles at York. I was at York and did not have one problem. it depends on how you drive it, lots of rev's and you go nowhere apart from down low revs and you go forward. You do have to be carefull how you put them on ramps if you want the rear up you have to raise both axle's on the same side. I hope this info helps. If you want more just ask. asjs
