WE usually stay at this site http://www.campinglachaumiere.com/ Where the owners wife works at the Vet's in St Omer and will arrange the appointment to suit your departure time. Very good friendly site and very good English spoken. They do meals and have a friendly bar. Great fun place to stay. I highly recommend it.

We go to a Vet in Marquise Clinique Veterinaire Des Caps 9 Avenue Ferber 62250 Marquise tel: 33321928912.

It is about 10miles S of Calais and is much easier to find and park allso it is much cheaper than the Calais Vet, I take my own Frontline and drontil tab , they do the Frontline and tell me to give the tab as soon as possible as its easier for the dog or they will give the injection if you prefer, as my dog is only 5kgs I prefer the tabs.

Hi,

Your dog needs to visit vet between 24 and 48 hours before departure.

If you are travelling up through France, best to visit vet on the way. You don't want to arrive in Calais, then hang around for 24 hours. Of course, if you are staying in Calais, then disregard this mail. :-D

Note, if you are departing on a Monday, vet will charge extra for a Sunday appointment. Cost us an extra €20. Lesson learned.

Fully agree, vets further south tend to be cheaper. Plus you can drive a long way in 24 hours, and who would really want to spend time (min 24 hours) kicking their heels in Calais?

Hi Suzi - welcome to the 'dog' house! :-D

This has been mentioned many times and there have been lots of recommendations for vets, both in Calais, and in other towns a small distance away (so you don't end up kicking your heels in Calais for 24 hours. Unfortunately the search facility doesn't like me again (nothing new there), but if you can get it to work you'll find lots of relevant posts come up, to use it:

In the Keyword field put 'vets france' (without the ' at either end)

Leave the Filter by Author field blank

Set the date limit to one year.

Then on the left click on the ‘Motorhomes’ forum

Ah-ha - just managed to get it to work ... :->

If you scroll down you’ll find a posting from me with links to other postings – the third one is probably the most helpful for you.

We relax at a campsite that is in the Aires book Les Erables at Escalles, I get panicky if we have to head back to Calais in a hurry (it comes with age) that is why I find Marquis handy and you can leave it and be in Calais in 20mins well in our case th Tunnel.

My word that is panicky, 24 hours to do a 20 mins drive. Surely you don't leave home for the tunnel a fortnight early just in case?

Dont be Clever :-D I was pointing out that it is better to go to a Vet return to your site and leave the next day for a leisurely drive! instead of having to look for one and then find somewhere to stay for 24+ hours.

Well I'm glad you took the joke, as it was meant. Seriously, for us your approach, which clearly works for you, would mean to us that we would be too far north, too soon.

Calais is interesting and it does have a good beach although Dogs arent allowed on it. You can always kill a couple of hours at Cite Europe as well and we dont mind staying at the Aire on the front either. Last year we stayed at Escalles went to the Vet next day 3.00 did some shopping Cite E; and stayed overnight at the Aire, its just a case of working out the time table to make sure you dont run too near the 48 hr deadline.
