Talk Show Host Jonathan Ross Quits The BBC

Jonathan Ross is quitting the BBC, he announced today.

The controversial broadcaster is leaving after 13 years at the Corporation.

Ross has been one of the biggest faces at the BBC, with his Friday night chat show, his Radio 2 show and his film review programme.

Ahead of the announcement he wrote on his Twitter page: "Good morning. My day is turning out to be far more interesting then I had anticipated! See you later - have a good one.”

When I heard this bit on the news, I commented that they were thinking of the wrong bit of anatomy.

I wonder if he's got a better offer, or if he's been 'encouraged' to leave. He was on 'The Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2009' (or whever it's called) where he was paired up with the other idiot, Russell Brand. Lets just say whoever put the two of them together again wants shooting - I'm surprised that it was permitted at all. Russell Brand was his usual insulting and egotistical self, trying to hog the limelight with stupid comments and Jonathan just sat there sniggering like a naughty school boy.

I'm certainly glad that my licence fee won't be going towards his upkeep soon.

Tonight's news says the BBC offered him an 80% salary cut, effectively giving him no option but to refuse the offer & leave.

WHY did they not do that after his debarcle last year.

Good riddence in my view, he has an ego as big as his pay packet. But I doubt his ego will reduce to the same level as the current BBC offer.

Trouble is, I will not be surprised if ITV or SKY, make him a ridiculous money offer in the misguided belief that he will pull in the viewers.

Or will be be a contestant in next year's "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here"?

At least we as licence payers, will no longer be paying his salary.

And I thought I was the only one who didn't like him.

The recession has hurt a lot of people so far. But just once in a while you get a story like Ross's exit to cheer us up. The best bit is that we get to savour the news now, and again when he goes, and probably a third time when they do 'The best of ...' show although that will need an awful lot of padding to make it more than the length of one of the good old interludes.

With Big Brother also going, dare I dream that this is the start of the end of the vacuous celebrity culture?
