Bearing in mind the fact that there are far more motorhomes around now, does anyone feel the need to book ahead at campsites in france, not just through the peak months?

:-S

There are also plenty of sites in France, plus Aires, plus France Passion sites, so I think it is not yet necessary to book anywhere.

I have never booked anything in France.

Might be necessary in 4 star sites on the Med I suppose.

The only things we book at least 24 hours in advance are the ferry and the vets in Calais. Everything else is done either on the day or at reception. That way we are free to come and go as we please. Which is the main reason of getting the van in the first place!

I do appreciate we are lucky though and some people who are tied to time with holidays might need to structure things a little bit more. Poor sods! :-D

I think anywhere near water, be that the sea or a lake, it is advisable to book in advance in high season. by example the site we like in Italy can be fully booked over the winter for the following summer. If not that fussy you will always find somewhere :-D
