French hygiene

I have no idea where the drain leads to, I was simply struck by the expectation that it was OK to empty toilets underneath hanging washing.

Also of course, washing can fall off the line and it can sometimes be dropped.

Different folks have different standards, don't they? ;-)

What is on show is not necessarily what is on offer.  I have not visited the site in question, so can only surmise.

However, the placing of the notices for the vidoir suggest to me that it is out of sight, behind the hedge that conceals the base of the sign.

Washing falling on the dirty ground?  Maybe, but if my conjecture regarding the location of the vidoir is fair, having regard to the apparent location of the dump grille and the washing lines, the ground beneath the washing shouldn't be that much worse than usual.

What is more apparent, is that the washing apparently obstructs access to the grey water dump grille, which is inconvenient, and that the last person to use the fresh water fill hose was an unhygienic Pratt, because they left it lying on the ground, instead of gathering it up.  Whether that person was French is open to conjecture however: indeed it is not even certain it was a motorhomer.

It may also be the case that this is no longer the designated motorhome grey waste dump point, and a new one has been installed elsewhere.  It just seems an odd place to put the very permanent washing lines, if not.

Maybe a bit too much self-righteous indignation?  :-)

No self-righteous indignation here, just wry amusement.

The Vidor / toilet emptying point / waste water dump, is the metal cover with the handle clearly visible under the washing.

If you look at the picture a little closer you will see that the washing lines and the concrete posts are much further back than the metal cover of the waste dump, no doubt that hose pipe is just used for rinsing out the vans waste tank.

No, the hose on the floor is for flushing out the toilet after emptying - unless it is a REALLY cr*p site in which case it's also for filling up you fresh water tank !

If you think that's bad you should try Morocco where the influence of 40 plus years of French rule can still clearly be seen - but without any maintenance since the French left the country - in 1956!

To use many campsite loos not only do you need your own bum paper but you need your own seat, a chain for flushing - always assuming there is any water, and some way of locking the door - if indeed there is a door to shut - and if you find one that is not blocked following several uses without flushing it is indeed your lucky day!

For showers the same door rules apply but you also need to take your own tap heads if you want any water to shower in - just don't expect the hot to be hot or for the used water to run anywhere except out under the door!

It pays to use your own ablutions believe me!

That said it is an amazing country and well worth a visit and the people are happy and friendly - they just have different expectations from life than we do!

Oh dear!  Not so nice then!!  Municipals are usually of a much better standard.  One to miss!
