Stuart
I've now got my installation done and have had a fiddle round to see what is on. I have managed to save BBC1, ITV and channel 4 as favourites but can't find BBC2 at all. What am I doing wrong? I have a maxview manual wind up dish with a maxview receiver. Any hints would be well received. TIA Stuart
colin
Check the channel details of the ones you get, it could be you are only getting one polarity, for BBC 2 (and BBC3/4 and news) you need to have tuned into 10.773 Horizontal
tonyg3nwl
Hi, According to Lyngsat, BBC2 on Freesat should appear when you tune to 10773 horizontal polarisation, as well as the rest of the same group. If you google for Lyngsat, then follow the screen for europe and then to Astra 2 D, you will find a table of information including Sky, as well as Freesat. hope this might help tonyg3nwl
JohnP
Did you receive a leaflet called "Quick Start Guide" with your system? Also does the receiver have a remote control with it? Ensure that you are on Astra 28East. Have you used the built-in sat-finder to align your antenna? This can have an audible note as well as the visual meter if you press button 1 on the remote. You may have to go through the Auto Scan to find available channels.
Brambles
If you have BBC1, you should get BB2-Scotland. Are you getting any BBC2's (regional programs) at all. Presumably not. Try re-aligning your dish using the inbuilt strength meters on receiver. Also check LNB is set correctly in clamp. Usually it needs to be rotated slightly to get the best signal. Also if it helps BB2 is on transponder 45 10.773 GHz/Horizontal if you want to try manually setting it up on receiver. edit - we have all been busy typing and looking up info at same time! Stuart
Tks for replies and advice to date. Will have another go in the morn if its not under a snowdrift. Been using Astra 28E, horizontal polarisation, forgot to say I have Skky news as well as ones mentioned above. I have the Quick Start leaflet and remote control with the unit. I used the Quick start guide to set the dish, I did "rock" the dish up and down once I'd got a signal but it seems very critical, is this normal? Cheers Stuart
Brambles
You need to scan both vertical and horizontal polarisation to get all the different channels. Yes, a small movement of dish will lose the signal.

So you have only scanned on one polarity? and that one is horizontal? Are you sure? as the channels you are missing are on horizontal, and Sky News is on vertical, that would seem to indicate you have only scanned vertical or the LNB is set 90deg out. kenny
I find the best way is to use sky news as your start up channel as you get a strong signal then do a new search you should get everything else once you save it thats it. Are you could set the reciever up in the house do a search there with your permenent dish and save the channels sorted
Stuart
Hi Folks, Thank you all for info supplied. Now all up and running, got BBC2 ok and several others. Seems to have got both vertical and horizontal polarisation, it appears to select this automatically as necessary. On the radio side I have not been able to get Classic FM. Is there no transmission on satellite? Hopefully away Tuesday for Portugal, will have a look for Berti when we arrive. Stuart
