DerekG
Are there any motor caravanners in our part of the world, that is, Devon (but also including Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset) who fancy meeting on site every now and again to share a glass of wine, eat out, see the sights and just generally be sociable? We are a mature couple not into large-scale rallies but like to get away frequently for a few days and think it would be fun to set up a small network of similar people in the West Country to get together, share experiences and recommend favourite sites. So often, especially outside the peak season, we find there's either no-one else around or there are quite a few other caravanners who keep themselves to themselves or come from so far away that you're never likely to see them again. We can't find a club that offers local contacts for informal get togethers, even though there must be hundreds of motor caravanners in the West country, so we thought we'd try to set up something ourselves. If you fancy the idea, get in touch - we'll be glad to hear from you.
Patricia
Hi Derek and welcome to the forum. What a splendid idea! Unfortunately though I live on theWorcestershire//Gloucestershire border so I am probably too far away and I am also a lone traveller.
PJay
Why not put an advert in the local paper (Free), Hope you get some replies. I live in Hampshire, so not the right area for you PJay PS welcome to the forum, guess you will get some replies
DerekG
Hello Patricia, Thanks for your reply - we didn't expect to hear anything so soon. Most encouraging. We certainly don't think you are too far away to venture as far as Devon and Cornwall and we would certainly welcome you and enjoy meeting if you decided to do so. And we have nothing against lone travellers!! You sound like a most accomplished motor caravan person - we have yet to go further afield than the South East, never mind charging off overseas. There are so many places to see within a few hours' driving of here that we haven't been tempted yet to go over to France - although we have occasionally toyed with the idea of taking the ferry from Plymouth to Roscoff. From your note and another from someone in Hampshire, it looks as if you should widen the net to include a slightly bigger slice of the country. We'll keep you posted, if you would like to know if anything comes of this. Derek and Lesley
DerekG
Hi PJay, Nice to hear from you. I assume you can read the reply we just sent to Patricia (not quite sure how the site works) so we won't repeat all that we have written there. But we certainly wouldn't consider Hampshire to be too far away from us to be included in the plan. So count yourself in if you wish to! We listed Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset, because they are the counties we mostly visit - up to now. It would take a lifetime to get tired of this area, really, there are so many terrific places to see and sites to stay. A good idea to advertise in the local paper although we decided that we would try this site first to see if there was any interest at all. So far, so good. We'll keep you up to date on any developments. Derek and Lesley
DerekG
Sorry, Patricia - typing error: We meant to say WE should widen the net to include more of southern of England, not that you should do it!!! Hope that makes betterr sense. Derek and Lesley
Patricia
Derek and Lesley - thank you for your invitation to join you some time. I do actually spend quite a lot of time in Cornwall and Devon although I was pretty disheartened last June after 3 full weeks in Devon with only one half-day without rain! Do keep in touch. monty the motorhome
Hi Derek I think this is a lovely idea, we are in Plymouth at the moment and would have been keen to meet others in the area, but we are off to Spain and France in 2 weeks! We'll look out for posts on this matter when we return though so I hope the idea takes off. Hope you enjoy your travels :-D

Baffling. We'd be grateful to know if you did get the note or, if not, can you tip us off about how to dispatch it from our outbox! Thanks. Baffling. We'd be grateful to know if you did get the note or, if not, can you tip us off about how to dispatch it from our outbox! Thanks. Derek and Lesley It will only leave your outbox when the recipient logs on again. We are in Exeter so very handy for the west country which we love. We are in Spain until May and plan to do Scotland in June as well as fly to Florence in May to see our son, so a big slice of our time is already committed. We also hope to return to somewhere warmer next winterB-) However if you would like to keep us on your contact list (I will send you an email address through a pm) then we can always give you the benefit of our knowledge and/or meet up with your group(lol) Roy Fuller

lennyhb
Sounds like the C&CC's DA meets are just what you are looking for. To elaborate Camping & Caravan Club have sections in each area called 'District Association' they organise meetings in the locality most months usually just in farmers fields. The Caravan Club have a similar scheme.
J9withdogs
The difference between the CC and CC&C rallies is that mostly the C & CC ones do not require pre-booking. Best to check though.
Patricia
Years ago I used to attend these meets but they tended to be quite large, usually at weekends, possibly a much younger age group and muddy fields would not suit my motorhome! I think Derek has the idea of a smaller, more informal grouping.
Guest Tracker
The CCC Motorhome Section meets are generally smaller and more informal than the general DA meets and we found the Devon & Cornwall Motorhome crowd to be a very friendly bunch of folk when we lived down there. Give them all our best regards when you see them again please! They may well have forgotten me but they might remember Rosie and her delight in chasing rabbits wherever we went! DerekG
Been in touch with most of you who have expressed an interest and planning to get moving quite soon - but probably won't have time to get away until after Easter. As soon as we set a date and place for our first short break, we'll email everyone we can. Sites near Minehead, Exmouth and Looe are near the top of our list at present but we'd be glad to try out other places if anyone has any suggestions.
