Go Box For Austria

Hi all,

We have been following the "German sticker" thread with interest and wonder if you can also pre-order the Austrian Go box - looking on the net it looks a little complicated to set up - any advice (or easy set up instructions) would be gratefully received.

We are an impatient couple who just want to reach Italy as soon as we get to Austria! B-) We don't want to spend ages trying to sort the thing out really. *-)

We went through Austria en route to Croatia in 2008. From Fussen via the Fern Pass to the Brenner Pass into Italy which is one of the shortest routes through. Picked up a Go Box in a garage and the trick is to pay cash (75 euros then). When you reach the old customs post on the Italian border, park and cross the covered footbridge to the opposite side and hand it back. Refund was 36 euros in cash . If you pay by credit card it is more involved.

But when you reach the toll booth at the Brenner Pass make sure you keep RIGHT and go through the Go Box lane. Muggins did'nt and was stuck in the toll lane while they obtained clearance to let me through !!

But if, having crossed the Fern Pass, you keep right at Nassereith, and continue South via Imst and Landeck, to the Reschen Pass, you can travel all the way on ordinary main roads (Autobahn alongside), so don't need the Go Box at all.  Enter Italy at Resia/Reschen, and then down via Merano and Bolzano.  Good roads all through.

Sounds like a plan Brian. Many thanks. B-)
