Fiat Ducato exhaust advice please

Recommended Posts

Heyyyy,

I'm new to Out&About & forums, so here goes........

Does anyone please have any advice on the best place where I can buy a replacement exhaust (in particular the rear silencer section, & the tailpipe which attaches to the rear of the silencer), either in the UK or in Portugal, Spain, France or Belgium, for a left-hand drive 2001 Fiat Ducato 2.8 TDI on an Alco Maxi chassis? I'm able to fit it myself.

I've tried Hymer UK, but they seem to be talking silly money !

Any advice would be muchos appreciated .

Cheers :-D

Hi Leepy and welcome !

I've read of a couple of people who have taken the exhaust (as a pattern), to a specialist and had a system 'made up' in stainless steel. If my memory serves, a person who had a left hand drive vehicle did just that. The cost was surprising reasonable to boot.

Perhaps a google might throw up such a specialist ?

Hi Leepy

It would help if you said what area you are in, and we could possibly point you in right direction.

I needed a new back box and tail section for a Hymer S650, went to a dealer and was charged an arm & leg. On a subsequent visit to a local Motor Sports garage for a totally unrelated matter, the owner noted my new box and tail pipe. He asked me what I paid for it and he told me they would have made me a Completey New Full Exhaust in stainless steel for a fraction of the price I paid.

So thats 2 of us so far pointing you in that direction and you wont get your hands dirty as they will fit it.

I echo Bob and Barney's advice.

Because of your motorhome's specification, I'm very doubtful that you'd be able to obtain a replacement exhaust system 'off the shelf', either in the UK or abroad.

If you GOOGLE-search pages from the UK using EXHAUST SYSTEM BESPOKE or EXHAUST SYSTEM STAINLESS STEEL as the search-term, you'll find plenty of companies that will custom-build a system. You might try JP Exhausts, as I'm pretty sure they used to offer stainless systems for motorhomes back in the 1990s.

(If you do decide to take the bespoke route and opt for a complete replacement system, you'll almost certainly need to leave your motorhome with the exhaust-system manufacturer. I've fitted stainless exhaust systems to vehicles in the past and, despite the systems (supposedly) being jig-built to bolt straight on, I always needed to cut-and-shut the systems to get them to fit perfectly. I'd be wary of any company claiming to be able to provide an exact copy of a customer-provided pattern that could be mounted on the vehicle without some adjustment/modification being required.)

A bespoke exhaust will be quicker and cheaper than a genuine Hymer one (assuming you could get one through a dealer).

There are specific Hymer sections on some other motorhome forums (motorhomefacts.com) which may have owners in your area who have used a bespoke manufacturer and can point you in their direction.
