springerspaniel
Hi can anyone explain to me how the gearbox works when their is no clutch but a gear stick? are they easy to drive? thanks as I'm thinking of buying a motorhome with this type of system. Cheers (?)
colin
Are you talking off the comfortmatic/sprintshift type? if so these are very similar to drive as old type automatics.
springerspaniel
I dont know, the chap who is selling the motorhome said you just push the gear stick and change gear as normal but their is no clutch? I have driven automatics for 30 years, so just wondered how this works. The motorhome is a Mobilvetta 170LX 2800cc diesel left hand drive
colin
Sounds like it might be autoclutch, I've no experiance of these.
Clive
Lift your foot from the accelerator, change gear and put your foot down again if its like my wife,s semi-automatic motorbike. C.
Derek Uzzell
An Iveco semi-automatic gearbox is mentioned on http://www.westcountrylinks.co.uk/forsale/_motorhomes/mh271109afr.htm It seems to be a traditional manual gearbox, but with automated control of clutch operation. Colin mentions the "Autoclutch", which could be retro-fitted to vehicles to provide automated clutch control. "Autoclutch" retained the original clutch-pedal, but I believe there was an alternative similar system that dispensed with it. Presumably, with the Iveco system, there's something (like a button on the gear-knob) that the driver has to press before starting off, but after that I believe you do as you've been advised and just move the gear-lever when you want to change gear, with the system looking after the clutch action for you. (You could always try ringing the number - 01673 880165 - on the westcountrylinks advert to see if you could obtain hands-on advice about this.) springerspaniel
Thanks phoned the add but has been sold a long time ago, have done some research on the internet, seems that it works through a pressure system. Just wondered if anyone has this system and what they think of it?
