hapi_chappie
Following the article in MMM Jan 2010, has anyone any experience of repairing ABS Plastic? Perhaps you chose DIY, or a specialist in your area? I'd be interested in any comments please, as I have a cracked panel that's looking sad !!Thanks, Graham
terry1956
Hi have a look at yaulting shops etc, they do repair kits for plastic hulls etc. if its the same material then its an easy DIY job. terry
davenewellhome
Yes, sort of! In January I had a little mishap with a customers van, slipped on ice outside the workshop and cracked the rear bumper. Advised the customer to take it to Cannock Resprays and I'd settle the bill. He took it, they repaired it and everyone is happy (specially me as they didn't charge me excessively ;-) ). D. bob b
Sealey do an ABS welding kit (Sealey HS102K), it comes complete with a selection of ABS welding rods. It seems that you would need to practice though. Too much heat and the whole lot turns into a floppy mess, too little and it won't weld. Quite expensive at £134.54. www.sealy.co.uk. 747
I managed to damage the nearside rear corner of my bumper last week. The estimate for repair is £120 + VAT. That is about the same price as the Sealy kit. I think I will leave it to the experts. :D

hapi_chappie
Thank you for your comments. I started with a local Yacht repairer, but their view was GRP, yes. ABS, No!!I'm more than happy to let the "experts" do the repair, rather than buying a kit and melting my panel :-)Being in Sussex, Cannock is quite a distance, so any thoughts on whether general Automotive repairers handle ABS these days, or is it a specialist job, that necessitates travelling to a national expert, like Cannock? Thanks again for your collective help.... graham
A lot of motor cycles are fitted with ABS type fairings and they sometimes ! need repairing. It might be worth asking your local dealer where they go for fairing repairs
