Timing Belt renewal

I have Fiat Ducato 2.3 turbo diesel and have been quoted £300 + vat for Timing, Fan & Aircon belts with all new tensioners and labour. Or £200 without the tensioners.

 

Good price or no?

I would say that it is a very good price indeed. Do not cut corners with the tensioners. They are considerably more likely to require replacement than the belt which was designed to last 150,000 miles. I have never seen the slightest wear on a cam belt from a 2.3 or 2.8 Fiat or Iveco when replaced at the required mileage, while there have been some noisy roller bearings after 4 or 5 years.

 

Make sure that the garage concerned has done one before because there is a design anomaly that makes the 2.3 a tricky one, even with the correct locking pin set.
