KD1 Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Can someone please tell me do I have to join one of the main clubs to get the above, also known as a Carnet. I always used to get the Card from the CCC club, but as I am no longer a member, I wonder are there other ways to get this card. Thanks.

Apparently here http://motorcaravanners.eu/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1 and the RAC but you may also have to be a member. David
PJay Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Just ordered mine to-day Caravan Club Think you have to be a member Worth having as accepted instead of passport at sites, and it does have insurance cover PJay
Mel B Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 I think you do have to be a member to get it. We've ummed and arred (spelling?) about getting one as we rarely use sites so the benefit to us would be minimal as I believe the insurance only covers you on campsites.
Madmaggott Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Received ours today from CC. We were surprised to find that it gives us 3rd party insurance (other than when at home) as we only got it to leave at sites instead of passport(s). Very good value at £5.50/year.
JeffersonCampervan Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 The CAA in Canada used to sell them even if you weren't a member (IIRC). Now you have to be a member of the CAA. I use my expired ones all the time in place of a passport - have yet to be refused. But I'm sure there will be a first time!
duffers Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 you should be a member of the affiliated Club - because of insurance factor I think, which is also why the site could refuse to accept out of date cards. RAC also issue, CTC used to, AA issue via the Caravan Club, worth getting I think, you also get some discounts with it, sometimes from sites sometimes from tourist attractions or camping shops,
malc d Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 These are useful in the U.K. and most of Europe. Ours was not accepted in Slovenia and Croatia a couple of years ago where they required a copy of my passport. Also in Scandinavia they have their own card - (which can be obtained online before a trip in that area ).
