magbrin Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 We have been plannig our first trip in a campervan to Europe, for this auturmn, since we purchased a new reliable 'van last September. Now, we find thst we are expecting our first grandchild in the middle of October! In brief: We want to meet the baby as soon as possible although our daughter says she will not necessarily want help immedeiately She has said that we should not change our plans We have limited window and had planned to be away for 6 weeks in October/early November We live in the North of Scotland, she lives near Edinburgh and we have reason to be in the Oliva/Denia area at the end of October - so there are distances involved. We are thinking of flying back for a couple of nights soon after the baby is born and then returning to complete our holiday My query is about parking while we are away. This may be in France or Spain - depending when he/she arrives. We assume that airport parking is not a safe option. Is it possible to book an ACSI site for two or three days and leave the 'van on site safely, unattended? Can anyone suggest any other options?
MandyAndy Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 I don't know if this will help but some neighbours of ours have a house about an hour from La Rochelle, they fly out there quite often from La Rochelle airport. If you see the liink you will see they also fly to Glasgow and Edinburgh from there http://www.larochelle.aeroport.fr/EN/destinations.htm We stay at a lovely municipal site in Marans just outside La Rochelle , reception speak good English and your van would be well out of sight and among others so would be safe. You can always ring them and tell them of your situation I am sure they would be helpful they have always been lovely with us. The phone number is on this link. http://www.ville-marans.fr/voir/hebergement/camping/ good luck Mandy
Patricia Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Exciting time for you and I hope all goes well. However, do make sure that you check with your m/home insurance company as most, if not all, will not cover the vehicle if left unattended for more than 36 hours. I found this out when my husband had a stroke. Since then I found that another company was not covering my m/home while parked outside a house occupied by myself - they said I must sleep in the m/home although I never found any mention of this in the small print. I obviously changed insurers!
starvin marvin Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 I know a few people who break their winter stay in the Oliva/Denia area by taking their m/h to Alicante airport and leaving it in a secure carpark there (ie fenced and guarded 24 hrs) and fly back to the UK. So don't dismiss airport parking. Check out whats available.
magbrin Posted May 3, 2010 Author Posted May 3, 2010 Thank you for your help, Mandy & SM, I am hoping to build a picture of places to park near airports that fly to Scotland, and I am pleased to hear that Alicante airport is not a no-no. Our plan, roughly is to go down the west of France from Cherbourg - where we have friends across the western Alps, East through Northern Spain and down to Oliva. Thanks also, Patricia - we will certainly check our insurance.
