dragonflyer Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 My husband is very hard of hearing. We are having trouble reading subtitles which blend into the scenery. The Sony TV at home shows subtitles against a black background. Our son tells us that the problem is caused by the software interpretation in the receiver. Our kit is Multimo on tripod with Sat Finder Comag - S1003/12 receiver Are any of the following models better at this? Comag SL25/12 Zehnder ZX68 Camos "blackbox" Grundig HD freesat 12v Micro M30 which records [does this record subtitles??] Specifications do not go into this particular detail. Another thing that annoys my husband is that there is no subtitle button on the remote for the receiver we have. We would also like that. Thanks Joyce
flicka Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Hello Joyce I may be wrong & others will soon correct me if I am, but I don't think it is anything to do with Satellite receiver. The function will be specific to the specification of your TV set, itself. (i.e. like teletext)
dragonflyer Posted May 3, 2010 Author Posted May 3, 2010 Thanks flicka The JVC TV set is used in the kitchen at home and gives stunning pictures and good subtitles on Freeview TV as it is an integrated model. It is now more than 7 years old, but cost a fortune when purchased. Our son is a computer consultant (started as a programmer), so I think he knows what he is talking about. I am looking for someone who actually uses one of these models to let me know how the subtitles look. It is difficult to buy and then return models as unsuitable for specified use. Thanks Joyce
dragonflyer Posted June 17, 2010 Author Posted June 17, 2010 Update We have obtained a Comag SC 25-S receiver which fits directly into the Scart socket. Excellent picture and subtitles on black background. We also checked out a Zender model at Road-Pro and that too had a black background to the subtitles. (We were were told that another Comag model had been returned because it had unreadable subtitles. They now know about several suitable models for the Hard of Hearing.) My husband is now happy Joyce
