I want to insure my wife's aunt and uncle from Australia to drive my motorhome for 2 weeks next month. My insurance company (c&cc) will not cover them as they dont have an EU license.

They said to try http://www.duinsure.com/sites/duinsure.nsf/homepages/homepage but they say they (the aunt and uncle) need to own the van to get insurance.

There must be a way to insure them for my van, and I'm hoping one of you may know (?)

Thanks in advance...........

If Downunder can't, I think you'll have to look for a UK insurer with whom you can insure your van on an any driver basis, to include holders of Oz licenses.  Maybe a broker could dig something out?  Australians can hire in UK, so I assume it can't be a legal restriction.

  • 3 weeks later...

Sorry for delay, was away in the van to Monaco for the F1 :-D

We found the problem with any of the companies that would insure them separately, they wanted them to own the van................ and if we could get them to insure them, then our insurance would be null and void, as you cant have 2 insurances on the one van.

So, went down the route of cancelling existing insurance, and getting a company who would insure them as additional drivers. After a few calls, we finally found that http://www.caravanguard.co.uk/index.php insure EU + Australians, yippeee, problem solved. £27 per person per week extra.

Its very odd this Australian thing this company have, why just Ozzys and not New Zealand as well for example. I'm just happy they had Australians on the list.

Just couldn't believe the hassle to sort this one out *-)
