le canichot depang Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Can one of our wise men on the forum tell me how you measure gas, we have just put 25litres into our gasflow bottles at the pumps, but wonder how it compares in weight to the old 7Kg bottles we had, there is probably a mathematical equation for this but I have no idea, any help appreciated - thank you
Mr. Grumpy Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 1 kilo equals 2 lt of gas. 25 lt therefore equals 12 1/2 kilos.
weldted Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 if you want to split hairs 0.55 litres =1 kilo but remember the tank will only fill to 80% of its capacity toprevent any chance of liquid gas entering the system.
Big Momma Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Also worth noting that LPG works out at around 45p a Litre so with my 2 x 11Kg bottles (44 Lts) that is equivalent to £19.80 which i think is somewhere around what it costs for a 6Kg Calor Gas refill (Although in practice I would only fill to 80%).

Brambles Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 weldted - 2010-05-08 6:37 PM if you want to split hairs 0.55 litres =1 kilo but remember the tank will only fill to 80% of its capacity toprevent any chance of liquid gas entering the system. You have your thoughts reversed - easy done! To be specific (no pun intended ..specific gravity??!!) the data is as follows. At 15 degrees Centigrade liquid Butane 1 litre = 0.576 Kg. ( 1.736 litre = 1 Kg) liquid Propane 1 litre = 0.508 Kg ( 1.967 litre = 1 Kg) Lpg often is a mixture of the two so 0.55Kg /Litre is a generally a figure close enough and easy to remember.
