ollybear
Brian Kirby - 2010-07-06 10:54 AMGlobecar are made by Possl, who are owned by Hymer.Pössl is no manufacturer anymore, it is now only a brand-name owned by some individual(Caravan-Dealer in bavaria I believe). The actual manufacturing for globecar and Pössl is being done by Dethleffs.
spud77
The globecar series are now available in the uk. (SMC NEWARK) Unfortunately the most interesting layout on the medium wheelbase Transit is not available in the uk despite it being in the 2012 brochure and online. This is the Fortscout with a forward dinette/lounge and a fixed bed at the rear, thus providing two areas. If one of you likes to go to bed early, or get up early for a cuppa, then you have separate areas to do this in this van...and all within the medium wheelbase which easily fits on a modern drive. We ordered one at the NEC in October, only to be told at Christmas that it wasn't possible. The problem seems to be having the sliding door on the driver's side. The manufacturer won't supply. Maybe if enough people said they were interested in the uk, the converter would alter the tooling for sliding door on passenger side? Surely this can be resolved! I think Globecar have missed a trick here. There is a gap in the uk market for this layout. on the medium wheelbase. There are already plenty of producers out there with the 6m van. What do you think?
colin
Not a hope in hells chance that there will be enough orders to make Ford change thier mind on SLD or Globecar to retool, just get a Globescout, 1foot longer much better layout, i.e. bigger bed, bigger washroom, more elbow room at dinette and more storage space. spud77
That extra foot, and a bit, ie the longer wheelbase is the problem. It would just hang over the drive front, and is slightly too long as an everyday vehicle. Otherwise we would have invested in a an Adria twin years ago. We currently have a La Strada Trento with the dop down bed on a Ford Transit. We are used to having the bed ready made, and a separate dining /lounge area. However it is a bit awkward to sit below the bed and drink a morning coffee when someone is still in bed. Hence the search for bed separate to dining/lounge on the medium wheelbase.
