a cam belt change in france between 700 & 1000 e & have driven both adria & possel 2008 models felt ford power better .

Absolutely wrong.

All three manufacturers use the same 2.2 engine at 100hp (PSA/Ford 2.2 'Puma' with cam chain.

Pug and Citroen also use the same 2.2 at 120 and 130hp

Fiat use their own Sofim 2.3 engine at 120 and 130hp (this one has cam belt).

All three use Fiat/Sofim 3.0 engine at 160hp with only Fiat offering the comfort-matic automated manual gearbox. This engine uses a cam chain.

These are absolute facts.

PS. These vans start life as just that; vans and very few van drivers ever have to close the side door with themselves inside! It would not be difficult to attach some sort of handle to the inside of the door to assist with closing it and frankly your converter should have thought of that. With the money they charge for the converted delivery van you would have thought a couple of quid for a handle would not be too much to ask!

Look, the bottom line with any of the sevel x250 vehicles is to try before you buy. If you can try reversing up a fairly steep slope and do not feel any undue juddering, cannot smell any burning from the clutch, and are happy with the speed at which you were going during the manouvre then the over high reverse gear is not a problem for you. Not yet anyway. If it is ok now, the chances are that it will remain so. If not, the manufacturers have no fixes for the 5 speed, and some (albeit compromised) mods for 6 speed versions.

Getting past that issue, all of the X250's are a brilliant drive and are pretty well made. Without gearbox issues there is much to recommend them.

Earlier vans (2006 to 2008) have had issues with steamed-up headlights. Many owners have complained about water ingress into the engine bay but there are DIY fixes for that.

I don't think that a good X250 is the poor relation to a Merc, in fact quite the opposite. Do try it however, and then try it again, just to be sure. If you cannot test it thoroughly before buying, just walk away.

But do make sure the van you test drive is the actual one you will buy.  Testing another, "sample", vehicle will not tell you what you need to know.  Neither will testing an empty van before conversion.  It must be the actual van, post conversion.  Weight is a factor, and they are a lot heavier after conversion.

Note you will get the same old crowd giving the same old negative comments however many are happy with their vans so test the one you want to buy especially in reverse don`t expect perfection its a VAN not a BMW or BENTLEY. Watch this space they are starting to turn their attentions to Ford.

And you will get nonsense comments like that from people that have not read the contributions above which were factual, fair and even complimentary.

Even if you were buying a BMW or a Bentley you would try the actual vehicle before taking ownership and you would want to know that any problems that were identified were resolved.

Also; Yes I think Fords are garbage and I have the evidence to back it up. That as they say, is a whole different story and not what the original poster was asking.

Do you really expect everyone to keep quiet about a problem that has caused so much distress to so many people? Even if the affected parties only represent 5% of the total sold, if someone asks the question they deserve a fair and balanced answer.

So, Mirage, unless you own a Citroen Relay 2006 onwards, it is only your comment that is inappropriate.

Have a nice day.

Nick
