Knaus
Hi Has anyone had a good quote for either single or multi trip cover for France. I only need medical, legal and personal liabilty cover. Household insurance covers belongings. The only factor being a heart attack in 2003 which is stabilised on drugs with no problems since.
Guest ademapearl
A lot depends on your age and how insurance companies view your medical condition. Most of the health screenings are done on some sort of automated screening system these days. i have just spent quite a lot of time on trying to get quotes, but my wife has a number of health conditions including irregular heartbeat. Most have refused to include these conditions, and some have rejected us outright. There is a company called 'free spirit' which will take most conditions at a price (£355 for 4 weeks in our case!). After this I tried phoning round, and both Avanti travel insurance, and just the cover.co.uk quoted us around £150 for an annual policy with declared medical conditions covered. They asked us the same medical screening questions as the computer, but for some reason the answers came out different! We are both in our 60s; when we were younger and fitter, we got annual policies for around £65 for European cover so I guess you should aim for that. Your other alternative is to take a cheaper policy which excludes medical conditions and rely on a EHIC card if you are only going to France or other countries like Germany which have a good health service. Certainly we were considering this option before we found our present insurers.
w1ntersun
If you only need medical insurance then go for a backpakers policy. As you say because your m/h and belongings are all ready covered and travel delay etc is not required the simple backpakers works for us. Mike88
Be careful. I took out a cheap policy. When I read the small print I discovered that I might not be covered. I have no health issues but take statins as a precaution. My cholestrol level is low and I'm not overweight. I telephoned the insurance company and was told that if I experienced a heart related problem, a stroke or anything vaguely connected with my statin medication I would not be covered. I am now with Insure and Go who confirmed that I would be covered.
Knaus
Hi Thanks for your comments. My renewal with RAC direct Insurance doesn't look so bad now. We are covered for medical conditions. Our Cover is Standard. No baggage, extended stay, winter sports, business, extended golfing or scuba diving. Max length of trip 31 days. Covers all Europe. Multi trip renewal is £125 including tax. Only drawback they don't do single trip cover.

stelynn
We have a joint bank account; the Premier Current Account; with Alliance & Leicester. It includes free annual European multi-trip insurance cover with the maximum length of each trip of 31days. I too have had heart attacks and now take medication and after going through the 'medical disclosure' with their insurers (Fortis), the extra to cover me was £80.00 for the year. This is a copy of the policy http://www.alliance-leicester.co.uk/customer-service/pdfs/Premier-Travel-Insurance-Policy.pdf It does end at 65 though. Slovenia and Croatia later this year. We have found nothing under £350 so far the bug bear is cover for over 60 days. David
Rowan Lee
Try www.miaonline.info . We got this through Money Saving Expert and they covered my husband on an annual policy for an extended trip to the USA including his heart condition for less than £200. Looks too good to be true but we read the policy document carefully and couldn't find a problem with it.
thebishbus
Hi. Could be worth trying ;- OTIS on line travel services. tel 0870 428 8720. We have joint annual world wide cover including 17 days skiing, and despite having 3 claims in the last 10 years only cost us £ 113 renewal last time. Only 45 days max per trip though. Brian B. Porky
Just a thought to consider. The French system in my experience is at least as good if not better than ours. They have a much better regional system and as long as you have your NHS European Health Insurance card it is all free. If not is a must have. Last month on our return from Spain I developed a "floater" in my left eye. My wife being a nurse was very concerned about the implications of this and hauled me off to La Rochelle hospital. There I had an immediate investigation in their specialist unit and it was confirmed as minor and nothing to worry about. So even with pre-existing conditions you will get good care. All we have to do is pay the cost of repatriation as an invalid or, dare I say it, a corpse!!!! The same actually applies to Spain. I can see the need for cover for the US etc. but not France or Spain. Roy Fuller
