Don Madge
The tour runs from Saturday July 3rd to Sunday July 25th 2010, the 97th Tour de France will be made up of 1 prologue and 20 stages and will cover a total distance of 3,600 kilometres. It starts in Rotterdam and continues through Belgium and on into France If you are touring France/Netherlands/Belgium check the tour route or you could be in for some long waits. For those who have not been caught-up in the Tour before, the Gendarmes close a rolling section of the road some 4 hrs before the riders come through, so a long wait if you need to get somewhere. For those who have seen it - whether planned or not - it is quite a sight, and everything, I mean everything takes a back seat where the Tour comes through. Take a look at this link for full course details. http://www.letour.fr/2010/TDF/COURSE/us/le_parcours.html Safe travelling Don
JeffersonCampervan
Thanks for that, Don. I've been rerouting my trip on account of this event, but I'm not sure if I'm being too cautious. I arrive in Amsterdam June 29, then meander down into the Rotterdam/Antwerp area to get over jet lag. I had planned to just make my way down to Paris for July 9, but that has me crossing 3 zigzag legs of the Tour, so I decided to go to Britanny instead. How early do campings, etc. get filled up with people going to the Tour? For instance, it starts in Rotterdam July 1 - will it be congested a few days before, or just a few hours before (i.e., should I "get out of Dodge" ASAP?)
