Canal du Midi _Aires and Campsites

This September we plan to visit Carcassonne and to cycle the Canal du Midi, can anyone recommend Aires and Campsites please. Any other information/tips would be most welcome. Thankyou.

There is a municipal site opposite the main entrance to the Carcassonne old town.

Hi Charles. There is a camp site and aire at "Tre'bes" along side the canal,nice cycle ride along canal into "Carcssone".

No there isn't an aire anymore, it closed late last year, only used by boats now. We were there in June and had to stay on the Municipal site in the town, 13,80€ incl elec, nice, clean toilets and showers. There is a large car park opposite the site so I suppose you could stay there. They don't like you parking on the car park at the leisure center either.

Theres a site at Capstang, its amunicipal site nice and quiet in the Autumn we stayed there a couple of years ago.

The aire at Trebes has now been closed

To the west of Carcassonne, just north of the N113.there's a nice little site in the village of St.Papoul.

 

It's a mile or two down to the Canal du Midi by bike, but then you can either cycle for miles east along the canal, in nice countryside, or west to the nearby town of Castelnaudary.
