snobbyafghan
Does anyone know if 12v sockets have changed in style over the past 10 years or so? The socket in our van (12 years old) is designed for plugs with blades slightly angled out whereas on the 12v plug we have, the blades are parallel. Guest Tracker
There are at least two different types of 12v plug and socket and I do believe that you can still buy plugs and sockets for each from caravan accessory stores. There seems to be a trend these days to use a car type cigarette lighter plug and socket and these too are readily available in a variey of shops. flicka
Hi Doug See recent thread, I think this is what you have. http://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=20228&posts=6 Like Tracker, IMO you would be better off with the cigarette lighter style as most current accessories will be compatableIt would also mean you can switch items between the Motorhome & Caravan. snobbyafghan
Thanks. I currently have a twin cigar-lighter style socket which I fitted to the 12v plug from the previous van. So it looks like I can replace that with an angled-blade plug. Time to look at the Maplin website. Doug
lennyhb
The first one you describe is made by W4 used to be a standard filament on UK caravans & motorhomes in the 80's, the second one is probably made by Clipsal and is an American 2 pin mains plug UK vans changed to these in the 90's for 12 volt. Most continental vans have always & still use a Hella plug which is a bit like a small cigar lighter plug but better quality I would recommend you change to these.
