robertandjean
Each year the readers of the French mag Camping Car vote for their aire of the year. The winner, announced in the Aug/Sept issue is Bouchemaine (Dept 37). Pleased to be able to give this info first on a free site rather than the paid for internet sites! Have not been to this one, were on way when had to turn back north, but will get there one day. Previous winners are: Avoine (37), St.-Pourcain-sur-Sioule (03), Montagne-sur-Grionde (17), Baume-les-Dames (25), Oradour-sur-Glane (87), Caramet (29), Brantome (24), Palavas-les-Flots (34), Kayserbourg (68), Fraisse-sur-Agout (34), Laissac (12), Ploumoguer (29), Le-Puy-Notre-Dame (49), St-Valery-en-Caux (76), Charmes (88), Paimboeuf (44), st-Maure-de Touraine (37), Panissieres (42). Of these have stayed at, and can recommend, St-Pourcain, Montagne, Baume, Oradour, Brantome, Palavas, Kayserbourg, Charmes, St Maure. Have also stayed on Paimboeuf, fine but can close for events, St-Valery, O.K. but can be very crowded and not sure will go again, and Panissierres great but not Sat night as Disco in adjacent hall. Visited Le-Puy but did not stay difficult service point and limited parking.
camperadi
Thanks for the information. Very interested in this because we use Aires often and might try 3 or 4 before finding one that is good. Hoping to do better when we go back to France in August. I Know that this is a busy time for Aires but might find a space some where. Now off to see how many fit in with our planned route:-D
hymer1942
My vote would go to Jarnac, alongside the Charente and 2 mins to the town centre and free services. Barrie
mondo
Ah Bouchemaine a worthy winner of Aire of the Year...We stayed on the Aire in question (I've actually posted on another thread What's Your Favourite Aire) last year..This aire is in fact.. what is a former Municipal Site however it is a really great place to stay.. great views...just outside the town so you can get your essentials from the shops...right on a cycle track you can actually ride into Angers..price was 10 euros overnight with EHU in 09..The bread van comes at 0830 ish in a morning and some rather enterprising teenagers were selling fruit and veg at the entrance when we stayed..Bags of room a few of the French who were there actually had their tables and chairs out so we followed suit..no dramas from the guy who collected our money he never batted an eyelid if I remember you can stay as long as you want there too..good showers and toilets..in fact all you would need in a site..there were some people actually there in tents too so it caters for all types
