Were going to the South of France the long way round, through Austria and Italy for the first time . We plan to spend a week in Northern Italy saying at Sostas and campsites, is this feasible or do we need to book sites in advance?

Southern end of Lake Garda go to Camping Butterfly. From there half hour train to Venice, lots of beautiful places all round the lake

Judge, on here regularly, will probably give you lots of info as I believe Italy is one of his favorite stamping grounds

Yes Syd, oft next weekend for Lake Garda via switzerland......OP has not come back and said when they are travelling yet. Camping Forenella which we like, gets booked up for the summer season by Christmas:-S But less popular spots, no trouble or low season (outside July/august) likewise.

Sorry I should have said, we tend to avoid the tourist trails. Meandering from Austria into Provence. I've been on the Med in the high season and it's a nightmare getting a place, I just don't want the same hassel in Italy.

So would you say, if avoiding the tourist hot spots , we should be OK?
