Hoax virus warnings

Why do people keep forwarding virus warnings without first checking to find out whether they are true or not?

 

I received one this morning which had been forwarded so many times there were literally hundreds of e mail addresses on show.

 

If I receive a warning I always check it out at http://www.snopes.com/snopes.asp if it is a hoax I then warn the sender that it is a hoax even giving snoop's address hoping they might take the hint to check future warnings before forwarding them.

usually if i get an email its spam and add it to my junk folder.

luckily i got a friend who knows more about viruses and whats outthereso i ask him and he warms me.

I do pretty much the same as Don, except that I check them on HoaxSlayer and reply with a link to the specific "debunk."

Sometimes I think its the only email some send out as they don't really use the email system very much and when they get a chance to forward something that on the surface appears helpful they just send it, albeit having tried to defend them it is still Bloody annoying.
