Tread depth France

Can anyone tell me the tyre tread depth in France.

Cannot find official French site and dont want to get pinched over there.

If you have doubts about your tyre depth then I think I would be changing them before I went over there.

My understanding is that the EU standard is 1.6mm (same as the UK).

 

 

Personally I change at 3mm, as the wet grip really drops off below this figure.

According to the AA, winter tyres should have 3mm in most euro countries (czech republic 4mm) but all other tyres 1.6mm but they recommend no less than 2mm.

UK is 1.6mm but I thought most other countries including France were 2mm.

 

If you are down to 3mm I would change them anyway as Brian says you will be doing a fare bit mileage.

I thought it was 1.6mm. However if it were 3mm then one would ensure 5mm of tread, which with it being 1.6mm would be unnessary wastage of good rubber and expensive.

Also its going to sunny, so if slicks are good enough for the grandprix then they re good enough for me! (lol)

I have always changed my tyres when they are 5 years old on a motorcaravan well before all the tread has gone. I once had a tyre burst so will not take the risk anymore. I think the Caravan club recommend this.
