Xmas markets - Cologne

Hi,

There is a Stellplatz with electric and very near a tram stop, tram takes about 10/15 Min's to the Cathedral and town centre you can also use a bike if you have one along the bank of the Rhine again about 15/20 Min's or you can walk 30/40 Min's along the bank of the Rhine. 50.96275N - 6.98325E it was €8 + €1 for electric 2 years ago doubt it would have gone up that much.

There is a campsite on the other side of the city in Rodenkirchen http://www.camping-berger-koeln.de/english/camping_berger_anfahrt.html quiet nice site used to be a 5 min walk to the bus stop but when we were there the bus stop was suspended and we had to walk into Rodenkirchen which took about 10 Min's, you can again use a bike along the bank of the Rhine or walk but its further into the city than the Stellplatz albeit it has more facilities than the Stellplatz.

You need to check the Umweltzone to ensure you comply and if you do enter it you will need a sticker this link should help http://www.umwelt-plakette.de/

thanks for the reply.

we emailed the berger one still await a reply, having trouble with the other link finding the campsite.

since i posted been adding up the cost

ferry [norfolklines were cheapest]

fuel

euopean ins & breakdown cover

campsite fees

getting very close to a short city break flying from heathrrow.

the days of savings on camping seem to be slipping away as camping and fuel and ferries go up and package holidays all in get cheaper.

Hi,

I think you are right about comparable costs, I think we need to look at Motorhoming as a Hobby and Hobbies are never cost effective, I did hear that Seafrance had some cheap deals haven't looked myself,

To make it a bit more fun/cost effective you could perhaps do a bit of a tour of several Xmas Markets as we normally do, not saying it will be cheap but if you try to do several places on a package city break they can get very expensive.

Also it may make it even more interesting and enjoyable if we got a small or big group together.

Hi

Log onto http://www.reisemobilhafen-koeln.de/

You can pre-book here for the camping platz by the rhine. We have used it for the last two years at start of December, booking both times. Very good platz in Aachen, no booking but always has space in early afternoon, and a very nice market. Walkable distance similar to Koln.

Markets in caves at Valkenburg are very nice but campsite above in about 30 Euros a night
