crocket
small gas bottle too big to fit in back of gas locker (6kg ) are all small bottles same diameter? Also are there any vans similar to symphony s/hand with a fixed double bed?
paulmold
We have just switched from butane to propane and we had the same problem, the bottle seems wider, so I carry a 3.9kg propane at the back of the locker for emergencies with the 6kg bottle at the front, it is a tight fit but just goes in. Derek Uzzell
crocket - 2010-08-29 10:46 AM small gas bottle too big to fit in back of gas locker (6kg ) are all small bottles same diameter? Also are there any vans similar to symphony s/hand with a fixed double bed? There's a listing of UK-marketed LPG bottle sizes in the Caravan Club's "Sites Directory & Handbook" (Page 630 in my 2009/2010 edition). Where smallish propane containers are concerned, the CC list quotes the following figures Calor 3.9kg capacity - 240mm (Diameter) 340mm (Height) 9.6kg (Weight filled) Calor 6.0kg capacity - 256mm (Diameter) 495mm (Height) 14.0kg (Weight filled) BP 5.0kg capacity ---- 305mm (Diameter) 393mm (Height) 9.50kg (Weight filled) There's also a Flogas 3.9kg capacity cylinder with the same dimensions as the Calor 3.9kg bottle, but (apparently) with a filled-weight of 10.1kg, and a "Calorlite" 6.0kg capacity bottle with identical dimensions to the standard 'heavy' Calor 6.0kg canister but with filled-weight of 10.52kg. For butane cylinders, the CC's list gives identical dimensions for equivalent containers. So 4.5kg capacity Calor and Flogas butane bottles are 240mm(D) x 340mm(H) (same as 3.9kg Calor/Flogas propane), while 7.0kg Calor and Flogas butane bottles are 256mm(D) x 495(H) (same as Calor 6.0kg propane). It's possible that there are small dimensional differences on a bottle-by-bottle basis that may be critical if the interior volume of a motorhome's gas-locker has really been pared down. However, if a locker can accommodate two Calor 7.0kg butane cylinders (or two Calor 4.5kg butane bottles), then it should be able to hold, respectively, two Calor 6.0kg or 3.9kg propane bottles. I've had quite a few small Calor bottles pass through my hands and I've not noticed any dimensional differences between equivalent butane and propane bottles. Auto-Sleepers has used the "Symphony" name more than once, for quite different models, so it would be helpful if you said (roughly) which model-year you had in mind. Defining the year is particularly important as you are seeking advice on second-hand vehicles. Presumably, by "similar" you merely mean a panel-van conversion (PVC) of much the same size as a Symphony, not a PVC that's near as dammit the same as a Symphony (same chassis, same motors, same living-area equipment, etc.) except for the fixed double bed? Chris The outer bottle should be a 3.9kg one and the nearest to the door can be a 6kg the bigger bottle being slightly larger one one point to note is that only the Calor ones seem to fit some of the other gas bottles are of a slightly larger size and will not fit Alf
