Bulletguy
Anyone on the forum had experience of the Google redirect virus? If so, how did you go about removing it? All sites I looked at suggest downloading a Registry Cleaner and i'm not keen on doing that as the last time I did I ended up reformatting. I usually use IE7 as my browser and it got in through there and works quite simply in that when you key a search into Google for example "Motorhomes", it redirects you to a junk/spam site. I'm now using Chrome which is the only browser which will open any sites but I need to get rid of this virus.
Guest Tracker
Sorry don't know as I'm a non techno type - and I hesitate to say this - but have you googled for an answer? Does this help? http://www.google.co.uk/support/forum/p/Web+Search/thread?tid=6df7e15519290612&hl=en
Bulletguy
Googled quite a bit of 'info' on it and the problem seems to be rife.....so I won't be the ONLY one getting hit, someone else on this forum may well be next. In fact ANYONE who uses the internet. Simple as that. Think I will try one of these Malware Removal forums. I'm just hoping to avoid the drudge of a reformat! Nice package.W2GI've been trying to help a friend who intalled this on his Dell, it found a couple of items which he removed, all he now gets is the blue screen of death. Also it doesn't get anywhere near best ratings when tested by magazines.

So don't keep us in suspense Colin - what do you use - and more importantly which is the best according to the distilled wisdom of 'the magazines' - and is it free! spospe
Bulletguy As far as I can tell from your initial query, you do not have a virus at all, you have a nasy bit of malware which is hijacking Google. The most common of these nasties is something called "Cool Web Search" and there is a nice free utility to zap it called "CW Shredder" and you can get a copy at: http://cwshredder.findmysoft.com/ Your best option is to stop these things getting into your PC in the first place and in the second place to have a good means of removing them if they do get past your security. I use Malwarebytes and you can get it from: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Go for the free version at the foot of the page ;-)

I use Malwarebytes and you can get it from: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Go for the free version at the foot of the page ;-) Yes you are right it WAS malware. Not any longer as eventually i got the 'blue screen of death' so was left with no other option but to go for the one thing i know is 100%guaranteed to get rid.......reformat! Prior to reformatting and whilst still able to access the internet I searched a number of forums on this malware crap. Sites will recommend you to download this or that 'removal tool', basically just registry cleaners which often make matters worse! Each one is better than such 'n such, and forums are full of no doubt well intentioned advice, but I know of NO 'removal tool' that works 100% guaranteed.......except one. And thats called reformatting. Incidentally I had Malwarebytes already installed..........it didn't spot it and it certainly wasn't capable of 'removing' it! Guest Tracker
I too have Malwarebytes and I have never yet had a scan pick up anything since the first scan over a year ago cleared out some crud although it was suggested by an allegedly knowledgeable computer whizz? I don't know why? But I do have Spywareblaster running in the background at all times so maybe that is picking up the nasties before they get to me? I wish I knew! But an Adaware scan never seems to find anything nasty either? Neither does an AVG scan? I do wish I knew why? But I'm not complaining!
