New Thetford gas cooker

My new Swift Bolero 600ek , has the new Thetford cooker the grill is a new design , rather than having gas jets all the way across and the mesh being heated all the way across , theres a space in the centre of the jets which doesnt heat up the centre of the mesh/hotplate this they say is so that you dont get a hot spot when griling food ,[ not that ive ever had a hotspot when grilling ] but my problem is it doesnt do toast , simply because when theres a slice or two of bread underneath the grill theres only heat at the ends of the slice /slices , anyone else got one of these ??Thetford say i should let the grill heat up for a while first so thats my next step , Watch this space . :-(
