Just got back yesterday afternoon after 24 days away in France. B-)

Got down to the Pyrenees but unfortunatley not as far east as CarolH and Charles ... I shall have to eat the chocolate covered Brazil nuts for them myself ... I'll be thinking of them whilst I do so of course! :D

The Chausson performed very well indeed, some of the roads were 'interesting' to say the least!

Two things of note:

The shower compartment in the Chausson works a treat - having the 'beam me up Scotty' type but with the sink within it is great, plenty of room and somewhere to put soaps etc. Best way we found was to have a good old rinse down, then put some water in the sink, lather up with soap, using the sink water to get a good foam going, then a good rinse down afterwards. :-S

The grill - hubby accidentally discovered that with the heat shield fully pulled out so it protrudes about 2 inches from the front top edge of the grill, the drop down front door then 'sticks' to it with the magnet (which normally holds it shut in transit) so that the door is kept at an angle of approximately 20 degrees, as a consequence this helps keep the heat in, stops you banging your head on the door *-), and consequently toast etc cooks quicker! :-D

One other thing that was a great success was the double skillet I bought earlier in the year - on 2 occasions I cooked a full chicken with roast potatoes and they were absolutely scrumptious!!! I also cooked a pizza and that was very quick and easy too (12 minutes). :-D

New grandchild expected in the new year so busy giving my son and daughter in law's bathroom a complete makeover, and picking up the bill for all fitments and tiles to boot. Also had a full habitation service on the van last week by a local firm that now do 'home' visits. £126, and that included a new gas hose on one of the bottles, which not only seems reasonable, but worth every penny just for the sheer convienence of them coming to you rather than booking it into a dealers and then having to arrange transport back and fore while they took their usual two or three days to actually get round to doing it. Well pleased with the service, I watched them do it, but disappointed that they could,nt fit the bike rack I wanted. Problems with the mounting points would have meant the bike and rack obscuring most of the rear window, and being a rear u shaped lounge, something I wanted to avoid, so now looking at a tow ball option with one of those 'Pendle' type racks. Anyone tried one of these before ?.

It's going on the back of our motorhome Michele and a Fiamma rack would, as previously said, obscure most of the rear lounge window. Already have a towbar fitted, so rather than spoil the view and drill holes in the bodywork, something i'm not really keen on, then the Pendle rack would seem the ideal solution. Seen a few on caravan hitches, but never on a motorhome, and while I don't see any problems maybe someone out there might point out any drawbacks I may have overlooked. Enjoying the bike at the moment, lost 8lbs already, and that with overall general fitness levels improved has made it money well spent, but being able to transport it and use it while touring is my next aim. Some great cycle tracks locally and here's two pics of what's on offer to both cyclists and walkers around here.

You need to make sure there is sufficient clearance between the uprights of the rack and the back of your motorhome for the handlebars, peddles etc, not only when you are stationary but expecially for when you are moving around as the rack will flex a bit - it will need to stick out more than if it was on a car - you don't want to dint the back wall now do you! 8-)

I've just got back from Wales - stayed on 2 lovely CC sites.

Shawsmead near Aberaeron and Pumsaint near Llandovery.

Torrential rain on Monday and Tuesday, but that's to be expected in Wales I suppose!

You're right about Chat being quiet, Michele. Perhaps we should liven it up again hehe.

I'm assuming that last question was just addressed to Janine, in spite of its implications! :D

I'm deeply hurt you didn't include me in your OP - surely I'm part of the "everyone" too? But I'll tell you anyway. Liz and I had our "main" holiday after Easter, when we went to the French Alps and Provence. During the summer, we had a week at Warwick at a Baptist camping event, then 10 days in Holland.

Since then, been catching up with work and not had much time to get on here. What's this about you not being a Motorhomer anymore Michele? How did that happen?

(Just a link to the thread where you posted it will do - I won't make you write it all again as I'm sure it's a long story!)

Don't think there'll be any problems Mel, and easy enough to rectify with a bit of metal bending, but must admit I can't quite get my head around using this type of rack on a motorhome. Been around for years and a well proven and safe way of transporting bikes, plus it's easily transferred to the car, so still think i'll go for it. Back to my tiling now and just discovered i,ve put the narrow border halfway up the wall on upside down. Only noticed when I glanced at the brochure my daughter in law had and hoping i'll get away with it. :-S

The Fiama front shade was worth getting Michelle without it I was moving round to the back of the van to keep out of the sun :-S at least it has been used unlike the side bit we bought a couple of years ago! we have never even tried it O.H. says its to heavy to take with us!! so thats another thing that was a waste of money.

Hi Michele, nice to see you on Ed and I have been touring Scotland for the past 6 weeks and having a great time only two half days of rain until today so no complaints, at the moment we are on the Isle of Skye and it has started raining but here of all places got a brilliant WFI connection.

Like you I often wonder where everyone has gone but I suppose they are out and about, hope Rosie & Freddie are doing ok they must be growing now. Carol. :-D
