Bulletguy
Heard this sad story on the radio today about an old lady who died alone at the age of 89. No friends, no family, no known relatives, and no money. So she was to have had a paupers funeral.......until it was discovered she had worked with SOE as an agent during the war. Absolutely nobody who lived near her knew about this, but as soon as they did they demanded she have a fitting burial. A very distressing story but at least one which ends on a good note. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1311699/Tragedy-WWII-spy-Eileen-Nearne-escaped-Gestapo-died-alone.html On the 6pm News a distant relative has now also been traced. Guest Tracker
Agreed. I have known ex SAS and ex SOE as well as ex RAF wartime pilots and even a Wing Commander over the years and they all have the same quiet modesty about their actions. I guess it must be part of the temperament that makes them so suitable for the work and all credit to them all for their part in helping to give us the quality of life we enjoy today.
