rolandrat
There's a good rally weekend this week at Bolton Indians Club for any members who care to join us. There is a bus stop outside that goes to Bolton or Bury in the opposite direction for the famous market as well.
Guest Tracker
Sorry can't make this one - but for those amongst us who are unfamiliar with MCC meets they are generally inexpensive ways of meeting a cheerful and like minded bunch of people for a get together, a few laughs and often a good walk or some light hearted entertainment thrown in and I commend the idea to the house! Hope the sun shines for you Roland and a heartfelt thanks to all those who do so much hard work to make it look as if the event runs itself - which believe me it don't! rolandrat
Hey Tracker, It's a pity you can't make it this group of ours is known for being a happy organised bunch that like a drink and enjoy dancing the night away. We cater for all types of dancers and of course some like to line dance as well. On Saturday night we will be having a curry made by the Indian hosts which is made in the tradition manner mmm! Arthur Brown
Hi Rolandrat, I am interested. Never been to a rally in either caravan or motor home. Can you give me some details please, or, tell me where I can find out more detail. Location, duration, Fri to Sun or Sat Sun etc. Electric available and so forth. As you may guess we are new to motor homing this year but would like the idea of a few beers, a curry and a dance, probably in that order. Thanks Arthur Brown
rolandrat
Hi Authur, the rally address is:- Bolton Indians Sports Club, Hacken Lane, Darcy Lever, Bolton BL3 1SD. We usually arrive from 2pm onwards on Friday. There are no electricity hookups, you should be ok for a weekend rally on your leisure batteries or better still if you have a solar panel fitted. Arrive with your water tank full if possible as there could be a long queue for the water pipe. This is a good rally venue and is always well supported. As with the MCC there is no need to book unless specifically mentioned before hand. Anyone who isn't a member can join over the weekend.
Arthur Brown
Hi Thanks for that. I have no problem with water. I should be able to last for a weekend on the battery. The other half is not yet convinced whether or not to attend and in view of the weather forecast I sympathise with her. Will make decisions later but in the meantime can you expand on the 'entertainment' dancing etc. I take it there is an 'indoors' to accommodate such activities. You have to bear with us newbies, in my case to both motor home and caravan rallies. It cunjures up visions of sitting in the middle of a field without any facilities or organisation. I am sure that is not the case but we have to creep before we walk. The motivating factor is 'curry' I like it and I make it so anything which adds to my knowledge is good. Guest Tracker
Arthur Brown - 2010-09-29 10:01 PM It conjures up visions of sitting in the middle of a field without any facilities . For many weekend meets that about sums it up! But that's not the whole story? The joy of the weekend for many of us is in it's simplicity, lack of formality - within common sense rules of course, the option to just to chill out, or to go for long short or intermediate walks, visit the local pub, village or town, river, castle or whatever is nearby and generally enjoy a low key weekend break. We wouldn't want to do it every weekend but unless you try you won't know and please do also bear in mind that whilst most group members are not 'cliquey' they do all have established friendships within their regular group and it might take a couple of meets for a newcomer to get to know a few people and become established. And then there is what you learn from a host of experienced Motor Caravanners of all levels of ingenuity and problem solving! Entertainment is often simple and home spun and none the worse for that because it invariably involves copious quantities of joking and laugther. rolandrat
Hi Art, all our venues are indoors either village halls, cricket clubs, rugby clubs, socail clubs and school halls and the odd pub that has enough ground to accomodate us. It can be bar drinks or supply your own depending on the venue. This year we had our first outdoor meet at Southport Riverside and because the weather was warm, fine and dry it went down very well so we are hoping to try it again sometime. We enjoy dancing, bingo, take your pick, play your cards right and the odd brain teasing quizz. We are a very social group and it's an inexpensive way to spend a wekend with like minded people. Where can you get all this for £6 a night and a chance to win a free weekend rally raffle? Tracker described rallying to a tee.
greem
Hi We are sad to say we have never been on a rally of any sort. They do sound good fun and I suppose once we have had the courage to do one life will be easier! Unfortunately we cannot make the Bolton one (even though we are travelling up north) due to family committments. Look forward to eventually going to one!
