johnnerontheroad
Hi, Anyone using Microsoft Security Essentials and is it any good??? Thanks Dave
Guest Tracker
I have it but don't know if it is any good as it has not yet found any problems - not that I particularly want it to? But then again I also have AVG9, Zone Alarm, Spyware Blaster, CCleaner and Malwarebytes so I may not need MSE after all - what do I know I have no expertise - just paranoia! At least it seems to do no harm!
ips
I use it and have had no problems with it seems better than any other ones I have used. Oh and its free of course.
J9withdogs
I haven't tried it, but this is a comment made on another forum by someone working in IT: "I have still to come across anyone working professionally in this field to use or recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. When I tested it on a known 'dirty' machine it failed to detect 17 of the 22 identified (by Avast) files. Of the five it could detect it was able to remove only two of them. It also appears to be very poor at self-defence. If they were to improve it's detection and removal capabilities but still leave it so vulnerable to being rendered unusable then they might not have bothered." duffers
I like Avast but then, I don't know that much about it really, just go off recommendations from friends also run Malware & ZA firewall but - years of experience serves to make me suspicious of Microsoft *-)
oldlowie
I have run MSE exclusively since I upgraded my PC to a shiny new Windows 7 Acer. No problems so far; I run a scan myself just to be sure, but really it will run in the background and keep you safe. Previously I was a big fan of AVG, but it started to cause problems with my old XP machine. MSE is Microsoft software (as the name might suggest) *-) , and this opens up all kinds of criticism from the 'small is best' brigade >:-( . Bill Gates ain't a multi-billionaire for nothing, he knows a thing or two. I trust him to keep my PC virus-free, if oi eever ghettt a trojjjaaan on ittt i'lll let yoooooo kno if miiiii PPPPPPCCCCC starts to shoooo ennnny siiiigns of corrrrruptionnnn..................... :D

breakaleg
I have used comodo anti virus and firewall combined also includes boclean as most trojans open when you boot up, not when downloaded, boclean catches them as the open and stops them before they get hold of your hard disk. Its all free
