nightrider
My day started off well when I solved two problems that had been giving me gyp, I have mentioned that I have to wear a catheter and a bag on my leg up until I have my operation, the catheter was giving me gyp in a sensitive part of my anatomy and was stopping me from working so when I got dressed this morning I figured out a way to ease the problem of the catheter and that was to tuck the bag inside my Y fronts, the Y fronts are tight fitting and support the bag and the plastic tubing and viola no more painful irritation. I went downstairs to the kitchen where the wife was making a brew, I then did a jig round the kitchen and lifted my dressing gown and my wife said where is the bag? I then gave her a flash of my undies and said it is tucked down there, so all day I have been working in my wood shop in total comfort, what about that then? The second problem that I solved was how to make a tapered rip cut on my bench saw, no way of doing it free hand too dangerous, so I devised a sliding table to do the job. I needed 4 6' long tapered rip cuts out of 8"x 2" rough sawn timber with a 15 degree taper and they had to be mirror image of each other, the job has turned out perfect but not without a bit of head scratching, The bad news is that I got a letter off the hospital this morning informing me that my operation scheduled for the 11th of october has been cancelled due to unforseen circumstances which is a real bummer, as long as I can now get back to work on monday I aint too bothered (lol) (lol) (lol)

colin
On monday went to see doc about my operation scedualed for 7th oct, we agreed op would be indefinatly postponned as knee has been vertualy pain free for a month, after 2 years of problems. Not in same legue as you I know, but it's almost nice to 'only' have pain in my hip. I'm hoping to fit five doors this weekend without feeling I'm going throu some sado-masicist ritual. nightrider
Out of the blue this morning I had a phone call from Christies hospital where I am involved in clinical trials, they asked how was I and did I have any side effects to which I said no, the only problem I have is that North Manchester General have cancelled the operation that was scheduled for the 11th of October. My clinician went up the wall saying that they had no right to stop the operation without Christies being informed because it all ties in with my future radiaton treatment, she said leave it with me. Within the hour I had a phone call from North Manchester General saying that the op was re-scheduled for the 20th of october and that they had one hell of a rollicking off the Christie, so roll on the 20th. About 6 months ago a pal of mine had his knee replaced, the knee is working perfectly but he has a lot of pain in his hips for some reason. howie
Fascinating stuff Malcolm. Not in the same league as your 'catheter', but do have this lump on my elbow that my Doctors diagnosed as 'tennis elbow'. Always put great faith in my Doctor, but i've never played a game of tennis in my life and thinking of getting a second opinion. What does the panel think. Should I trust in my own G.P., or play it safe, just in case.
Guest Tracker
I know you sometimes talk a load of bollox Howie but I hadn't realised that you were growing an extra one as well!
howie
Do you mind Richard. You may well find my 'tennis elbow' amusing, but after all the help and support i've given you on this forum a little sympathy and understanding would'nt go amiss. 8-)
colin
Tennis elbow is bursitis and is not nessararly a result of playing tennis *-) If it's a sac of fluid, then odds are it is bursitis/tennis elbow, on it's own it is not always a big problem, but can be if it gets infected. This is what happened to my knee, firstly I have servere osteoarthritis of hips and knees, then I got bursitis on knee, this became infected, so I was put on pennicillen, this didn't work so had to take non pencillen as well as pennicillen and a heavy duty anti-inflametry, it was at this point me and doc had a bit of falling out, as I allways investigate any medicenes I'm given, turns out a side affect of the anti-inflametries is halucenations, and they are addictive, I thought it neglegent of the doc to give me (an FAC holder) this drug when alternatives where availible, so at first oppertunatly I stopped taking it and self medicated with bromelain, which seems to have controlled the bursitis and relieved the osteoarthritis to some extent. I should add that I'm considered too young to have hip and knee ops unless it's realy bad, consultant thinks I should have it done, me and gp think not at this stage. My wife says go for it and get my name in the Bury Times.

I'd have a second opinion if I were you.
howie
Appointment on thursday Malc and hoping to get it sorted then. No pain, just fluid, and as Colin pointed out, the risk of infection makes it a priority.
