"Bye-bye Baby!"

Regular readers may recall me hijacking someone else's thread a while ago to ask if anyone wanted to buy my 1968 Mini.

Happy to announce that a guy from some miles away came on Saturday, and after a close inspection said he wanted to buy it. We agreed a price we were both happy with, he left a cash deposit, and he's coming back this Saturday with the rest of the cash, to collect the car.

I'm specially pleased he lives quite a distance away, as I didn't want to keep seeing it around when it wasn't mine anymore!

Funny how older vehicles have more character, and you seem to give them a personality :D

I've had a few classic cars including a Frogeye sprite and a 3.8s Jaguar :D

One of my favourite Mini's was a 1965 Mk1 Mini I bought off a guy for £50. He was going to scrap it......absolute sacriledge!! Even back then the Mk1 was more rare than the Cooper S as most people treated the Mk1 as 'just another Mini'.

I owned it for around eight years then sold it for £500 but often regret it. It attracted more attention than the Cooper S's that i'd owned. You can still easily buy a Cooper S today, but try and find a Mk1!

Had a mini given to me once that needed a new wing. I fitted the wing and took it up the road for a run and it was bloody awful to drive. i got rid of it pronto. Talk about agricultural and noisy as hell. Had no desire to have another. Although when I was a youngter and window cleaning in london I used to love driving the mini van around as they were so manouverable. But compared to modern cars they are rubbish. But loads of people love them as they do the vw beatle and the moggie minor and not forgeting the reliant robin. It takes all sorts but none of them float my boat as I like propper cars, like the Mk 2 jag, Daimler Dart, Armstrong Siddely's, et al.

Well Peter I disagree ;-) I have recently bought, well in May,! a 2008 Mini Cooper in pepper white with all the trimmings, leather heated seats sliding roof etc; ( haven't found all the things its supposed to have Blue tooth!! my phone is too old to use it, I LOVE it its so economical and only £26 tax or could be £36 cant remember and the insurance was less than my last Mazda 3. The only thing my O.H. complains about is it stops when you stop at lights etc; but starts as soon as you put your foot on clutch and accelerator! I dont mind it at all. And I have no problems getting out of the door in the garage! or reversing out and up our drive I now have plenty of clearance between bungalow wall and garden wall.

That's not a Mini as we all know it, . It's a modern interpretation of it and is a lovely car. Just as the new Fiat 500 is not the tinny and underpowered, but very cute small car of the 70's. The same could be said of the new VW Beetle. Etc Etc.

Have now blown the proceeds of the sale on a Ford (of course) Focus.

Lovely 2002 Ghia job, in metallic blue. Mileage a bit high, but it's had the cam belt done so what the heck. Collecting it tomorrow.

So now we've got a "proper car," and can stop ramping up the mileage on "Roxie" (currently 37,600) quite so fast.

PANIC: what shall we call it? Number plate says OEF, but can't think of anything suitable about eggs!

Second thoughts, no panic. Too soon to decide until I've driven it a bit more and decided if it's a "he" or a "she."
