Satellite LNB cables and set up.

Hi everyone,

Just back from a long weekend in Oban on the C&CC club site and I was in great demand for my services.

Bit of a long story but we wanted Sat TV and set up our dish to no avail and eventually moved pitch to other side of the campsite and hooray got sat TV no problem. Other fellow campers, mainly retired, had obviously been watching my endeavors and enquired as to how it was working..."fine now"..and regaled my story of moving pitch. The site manager also been telling everyone you can only get Sat TV on the right hand side of the campsite based on numerous campers not getting on left hand side.

So! I suggested I take a look at the elderly couples set up as I was convinced he should not have a problem. He told me how he had paid an engineer £40 to make up is cables so they at least should be Ok.

Far from it, most of the conncectors where badly done with strands shorting or not even connected. So I remade connections and used my Sat Finder and very quickely he was enjoying TV.

Next Campers, a really friendly couple of blokes most grateful when I discovered the same problem of bad connections but with slight twist. Their cable had very thin center core and were a very slack fit into ajoining connectors. By putting a slight bend on the core wire protruding there was success in getting a signal.

Onto a third camper, same problem, poor connectors badly fitted.

A theme is developing here of people attempting to get a signal with poor connections when using the portable camping style dishes, so I think my 1st tip has to be for goodness sake check your cables are made up correctly and are working before leaving home and get a sat finder.

I was actually quite enjoying myself going around getting everyones Sat TV to work, until darkness fell and was time to go watch my own TV, and rest of weekend was brilliant sunshine, blue skies and very warm.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi, I could relate a similar tale from our holiday 2 years ago at Agde. 5 satellite tv setups and problem solving, dodgy contacts etc, 1 Belgian caravan electrics sorted, bad contacts on hookup lead input to van,, 2 control panel problems sorted (one in transit at Chartres) ,.. not bad for a 3week stay, and I recon I could have paid for my holiday if I had been in business, what with callout charges etc.

One mechanical problem sorted out on bicycle (rear brakes binding and way out of adjustment)

I was beginning to wonder if this really was my holiday!!!!

Grateful thanks received from all happy "customers"

Happy to oblige at any time, just ask.
