Belgium Roads

After touring 7 countries in August and September, we returned via Belgium all I can say about their roads is that I think they are waiting for another war to start, and when its over for someone to pick up the tab to get them mended.

I thought our roads were pretty grim but theirs are 3rd world roads. As anyone else had the same experience driving on them.

Hitlers tanks clattered along Belgian roads.......they never got to the UK.Roads in Belgium may not be amongst the best in the world, but neither are they THAT bad either. If you think they are, try Poland. But then thats another country which was invaded by thousands of tanks.By comparison our roads are an absolute disgrace with poor resurfacing and never ending roadworks all over the damn place. Here are a couple of websites you will enjoy......except they show 'third world' UK and not Belgium.http://www.potholes.co.uk/http://www.fillthathole.org.uk/

I think our roads are terrible, especially as a I am a keen cyclist, and have never noticed anything particularly bad with Belgian roads, and we visit/pass through at least twice a year........Now Northern Portugal! *-)

There was a seriously bad pothole in one of the roads I use to travel to and from work. When I first noticed it I was lucky.....I hit it when driving a Transit van, but had a cyclist or biker hit it they would have been seriously injured or possibly killed. I reported it to my local Council but it took two years before anything was done.

Another road has deteriorated to the point of the surface totally breaking up. This has remained for years until the other day a guy was sticking signs up warning that men were working on the road. I use this road twice a day every day and it was almost a month before they decided to start work. They spent an afternoon chucking bits of tarmac in the holes and running a roller over it.

And THIS is what we pay taxes for? *-)

All I can say BG is that next time I'll get there before the Tanks, anyway I was heading for Calais, not Dunkirk :-D

I left Nurburg and took the 258 to Monschau and crossed the border. following the N67 up to Eupen, this is a lovely run but the road was terrible, then onto the E40 and headed West. Now I know this M/Way does take a hammering but it is in a very bad condition IMO, a hell of a lot worse than our M/Ways.

When we were nearing the joining of the E19 (A7) & the E42 we got the warning signs that there had been a accident and that there were long delays. We came off at la Louviere and through the suburb of Goegnios to by pass the accident. I don't know if anyone knows this road but it is dead straight for 6-7 km, we could not go over 20mph, the road was so bad and to top that the sods had put road humps on it in places

Never been to Poland, but I have heard the stories.

'Rant Over'.

Why as the writing altered? I've not done anything!!

If you think Belgian road aren't bad, try the one from lille to liege. The road noise is horrendous on this crappy concrete road.

Driven it many times though it can be avoided by taking the Brussels route.

It's just pave' which at least will never threaten to punch a suspension mount through the bonnet.......unlike potty potholes UK!
