Syd
This afternoon I fell from the new balcony that we just had put up before our holidays onto my exercise bike below, and then onto the concrete floor. I fell 8 feet in all, gashed my head in two places, paralysed my left arm and badly hurt my back and left hip, there was blood everywhere. Jan want's to know when I am going to clean up the mess My arm is much better now as is my head but my back is absolutely killing me and of course I still have to lift Lee. That hurts so much that I could be sick when I am doing it but I have to do it. It was my own fault I used a ladder that was too short when the proper one was only 15 paces away. I'm a BLOODY IDIOT. Hope it is a bit better for tomorrow, feeling sorry for myself now. Exercise great caution when useing ladders and make sure you choose one that is long enough
MandyAndy
Hope you got checked out by someone who knows what they are talking about, you could be doing more damage to your back by moving never mind lifting!! You don't want to end up not lifting again, don't let your pride get in the way of getting looked over :-D we all do things that looking back seem idiotic you just go with it. Hope you feel better today and not stiffened up. Mandy
Dave Newell
Hi Syd, sorry to hear of your misfortune. I agree with Mandy, if you haven't already done so get yourself checked out. your back injury may just be a strained or bruised muscle but if you don't rest it and let it heal it will only get worse until you can't move. The human body has a built in self defence mechanism for back problems called a "protective spasm reaction. What happens is you injure a muscle slightly so the body tries to immobilise the area to protect it from further injury, it does this by putting the muscles surrounding the injury into spasm. If you don't rest and relax these muscles the spasm gets progressively tighter until your back is just a slab off extremely painful taught muscles and you will be virtually unable to move because of the pain. Painkillers, rest and relaxing are the only solution, hot baths and lying face down with a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel across the painful area also help. I hope you get better soon but please get it checked out professionally. D.

Guest JudgeMental
I used the excercise bike during a spell of bad weather in January and not being able to get out and cycle, and damaged my sacroiliac joint? 4 months of agony! *-)
teflon2
Sorry to hear you've hurt yourself Syd. If doc tells you it's not damaged try a realy hot bath then quick dry then someone to rub Olbas oil on and around the area it,ll seem like there's a fire on your back at first but you will soon feel the benefit (I think its because the heat is worse than the pain) but my wife swears by it and she has a prolapsed disc. Hope you get better quickly. best wishes John :-(
flicka
Best wishes for a speedy recovery Syd. I did a similar thing back in January, but only 4ft drop. Thought I had just bruised it. 2 days I couldn't sleep so went & sat onthe sofa for the night, 7:30 am wife had to call an ambulance I could not move & my back went into spasm. Spent the day on a hospital trolley while they did various tests. Thankfully everything was OK. SO PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU GET IT CHECHED OUT.
